im gonna be growing here in about 2 months, and I was just curious...if I just used one of those cheap fluorescent lights for 1 personal-use plant, how much more would my electric bill be? i'm not expecting it to be too noticeable, so I'm not really worried, I'd just like to know. I plan to use a 24 hour light period until the plant begins to flower, then switch to 17/7 light/dark, if that helps any....

Figure it out yourself (you'll probably need a calculator).

    A. Find your elect. bill and see what you are being charged per Kw/h (kilowatt hour). A kilowatt hour is 1,000 watts for 1 hour.
    B. Deciede what wattage the light you want to use draws.
    D. Do the math.
Hint: It's less than a few bux per month.

P.S. It's foolish imo to grow fewer than 4 plants. You want to maximize your chances of having at least 1 female, so you get buds.

Go to this site and there is an "INFO" link. there you will find a calculator chart. You can place your amount per kilowatt hours in/and time per day- and press calcualte.
It will tell you how much a 100 watt to a 1000 watt sodium or halide will cost.
Once you see how little a small hid is (36 dollars for my 600 w hps on 12/12 at .11 cents)
    you'll laugh.

175 watts is enough to grow 4 decent plants under BTW started out with 175w halide 2 years ago in my closet.( my recent indoor journey that is>)

first, thanks for your help, any bit of info helps me. Second, I'm worried about growing four plants as opposed to one. However, my worry could be entirely unfounded, you see, I'm not sure how the law works when plants are concerned. Is getting busted with 4 plants a hella big charge compared be being caught growing one? I would love to grow four or more plants, don't get me wrong, I just dont want the extra felony-worthy risks, you know?
Alright, thank you to everyone. tiedye420, your link was awesome, it really helped.

The smell of one plant in flower is quite similar to four plants in flower- your concerns will obviously be the smell above all.
Try northern lights #5 -it has almost no scent even late in flower. But it's a potent indica type strain.
Im a med grower in cali- 6 plants in flower is totally legal by state law.

ranger is really telling you to start four or five seeds and grow them a month or 6 weeks. Then you will need to sex them. Out of four plants you might only get one female worth keeping. Id start five or ten seeds looking for "the one" myself...
But if you start five seeds, and get four good females.
Why then 175 watt halide would cover them. ;)
Try the warm halide bulbs- they work great for vegging and budding.
