i just wanted to share my opinion on the christian religion with you guys. i consider myself a christian because i believe in God and Jesus, but I think the christian religion is so screwed up nowadays. that's why i don't blame people who become athiests because of christians always telling them they'll go to hell if they don't do this or that. christians are always trying to push the religion onto others, but the truth is, it's not our job to convert people. we can speak the word but we can't force people to listen, it's not up to us. God is all about love and peace in the end, it's certain christians who make God seem like some vengeful control freak, that's just what i think.

All in all, you'll probably convince more people with love than doctrine anyways.

According to the Bible you shouldn't tell people they're going to hell. But, that being said turning atheist because you disagree with something a "Christian" said makes no sense. It's about what Christ said. Don't let anyone turn you off with all the hellfire talk. Just stop listening to them.

I completely agree! Jesus came to each a message of love and peace and forgiveness. Not of wrath and anger. I get upset about something about every time I go to church these days...

yep! We all come from such different places. The Prodigal son is an excellent example of how as christians we will see things so differently. Some people take literally that the Prodigal son was the one who wasted all his wealth to come back; others interpret the prodigal son to be the other who wasted his heart later because he rejected the idea of 'forgiveness'. There are Christians out there who are very jealous of those who come to know Christ through perilous circumstances.

so many christians are believers by birth, family, region, etc, but often are more living indoctrinations than anything else. In some ways I see a real comparison between these and NT Pharisees.

i always thought that parable was a demonstration of God's forgiveness (as well as how we should forgive others) and forget about their past trangressions...but it also has been a while since I did a close reading of it

I think I shall after dinner
