i started reading it around a year, its still on my to-finish list, gathering dust on my bookcase. its seemed a pretty coool book, with the basic look into philosophical thought
I read it a year or so ago. It is a good book for an into to philosophy- it covers major movements, philosophers, and ideas. I wasn't a big fan of the story-line within it, I'm not one for book which are written in that style, but I think it was a great overview. When you are done, or now, I would highly suggest you read the book "Ishmael"....It is written in the same style (A story covering philosophical ideas to make it an easier read) but it has some great ideas for anyone who wants to change the world. The tag Line: TEACHER SEEKS PUPIL Must have an earnest desire to save the world. Apply in Person.
Yeah I agree, the philosophy part was educating, but the plot I found extremely boring. I would say, just read a philosophy textbook if you want to learn about it.. way more concise.
It's just a vessel for philosophy. Go read some Camus or Sartre if you really want some mental stimulation.
Just reading Camus or Satre gives you just the views of Camus or Satre. Someone who is intrested in Sophie's World usually wants an onverview or an introduction into a wide range of different philosophies.
Read this book. It is a kind of story bout the girl, but throug the story, you learn about hystory of philosphy.
