I have a philosophy degree, and I use it every single day. There is never a time when knowing how to think and use proper logic isn't quite useful in the real world. It also comes in handy with homeschooling my kids, because when they are highschool aged, the state law here says I have to have a bachelor's degree or register with a religious school. Nice to know I have one more option open to me in case I need it.

very true mamaboogie....philosophy and logic are perhaps more relevant to everyday life and to the things that matter most than the majority of degrees. have you ever put it to use in a work setting, or did you get it just for the sake of having your bachelor's?

having a degree got me a higher starting salary than I would have gotten otherwise at my last two jobs before I had kids and dropped out of the corporate world. I was making more as an administrative assistant to a VP than some of the others who were higher up on the ladder than I was were making. Didn't matter what the degree was, just that I had one. But the reason I studied philosophy was because that is what I wanted to learn more about, and to prove to myself that I could actually finish something I started. I did it for me, not for anyone else or for any potential future employment. When I first went to college it was because that was what everyone expected from me. I studied engineering because I had a scholarship and that's what they wanted me to do. I hated it and knew that I'd be miserable living my life doing what everyone else thinks I should do instead of doing what I really want to do.

i'm currently in college because i'm expected to be...and i definitely also feel a need to prove that i can actually finish something as you did. honestly, i'm a bit of a quitter when it comes to the parts of life about which i'm not terribly enthusiastic. i'm just not sure i could justify in my mind getting a degree which would be of no direct use to me
the eternal dilemma....doing what makes me happy, or doing what makes me money...
i think i know the answer, but am not sure i have the guts to actually do it

just agreeing with what you said in that post, mainly with that intellect doesn't need a degree.
