lol. you're gonna love this then, i'm a seventh day adventist...one who's not a vegan and doesn't particularly dislike the catholic religion.
Me? Bah, I'm an Atheist. I don't have anything against religion or people who are religious, it's just not for me.
I am a Christian so I guess I can shed some light on misconceptions. All of the Christians I know personally pretty much object to hypocritical televangelists such as Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Benny Hinn, etc. There's only one guy on TV that I really admire and his name is Dr. Charles Stanley. His ministry is based out of Atlanta, Georgia and he's a pretty interesting guy who tells it like it is. Billy Graham is another favorite of mine, though he's not much of a televangelist. We don't go "flaunting" our personal relationships with God. When a Christian describes his relationship with the Creator, it's just that. It's like a man describing his relationship with his wife. There are some good books on the Christian faith. One of them is by C.S. Lewis titled "Mere Christianity." As you know, he also wrote a book series titled "The Chronicles of Narnia." I believe people are turned off by Christianity because of how certain Christians act. Trust me, there will always be a hypocritical Christian. I'm bothered by them as well. Now I'm not saying I'm perfect. I'm not perfect. No one is perfect except Christ and no one can achieve the perfection of Christ because of our sinful nature. CW
My religion is ummm... life, I suppose. Does that count? Religion can bring people peae and happiness, which is cool, but I can't see myself belonging to any religion. After I die, what happens? Well, I'll find out when I get there. but this post in itself is a waste because nobody asked me!
Most Christians don't see Christianity as a religion because they consider their faith to be a lifestyle. To me, religion is man seeking God. Christianity is God seeking man.
Whoa, really? I had no idea. I used to love "The Chronicles of Narnia" when I was in elementary school. Hmm, interesting. Thanks for the fact!
Yeah, the whole "Chronicles of Narnia" series is based on the Christian faith. C.S. Lewis wrote it for his niece, I think. He was a non-Christian until his friend and colleague, J.R.R. Tolkien, brought him into the faith. You may know Tolkien from his "Lord of the Rings" series, which is also based on the Christian faith.
True there will come when many false prophets will come and spread lies...you only need to count on the only true God...Jesus Christ. The Bible is the way to understanding and wisdom.
"i'm a seventh day adventist" While there are some Christian denomination I dislike, yours isn't one of them.
I'm in the Marine Corps...I carry a rifle into combat....but I know that Christ is with me. I'm not a killer...war is going to happen...you can't stop it. All you can do is live right by God...and listen to the Holy Spirit.
Ah, every evangilist is always trying to sell you something... They thump on their bibles like they're all high and mighty, and charge you a hundred dollars for their diamond-plated bibles...
Exactly.... for example, the nine fruits of the spirit.... (Galations 5:22) Love Joy Peace Patience Kindness Goodness Faithfulness Gentleness Self-control Christ was the only one who posessed all nine of them because he was perfect. Wow, I didn't know that As far as false prophets.... That is what the holy spirit is for. To distinguish between who is false, and who is for truth.
Yes i agree, I so hate the word religion. The word religion to me means control and judgement. I'm just a believer in Jesus and what he has done for me.
thou shalt not murder. not killing wouldn't make any sense. even that great psalm or proverb says to everything there is a season.
i think war is included in killing. you dont have to go into the marines if you dont want. it was your choice, so its your choice to kill as well. but on a different note, what about greed? it seems like all these church-going christians think they are free of sin, and yet, almost all americans try and get as much stuff as possible. theyre all about how much money they have, and how high on the social ladder they are. that doesn't make sense to me. its all about the money, and that really sucks.
perhaps war is included in killing in your semantics, but when using biblical terms it's better to stick with the general sense of the whole text. sometimes you just DO have to kill. that's not murder. it's all in the motive. as for greed, yeah, it's ugly. not very christian at all.
yeah, i suppose in some cases, you may have to kill, but most of the time people kill when there are other solutions to the problem... at least thats what it seems like to me.
