im thinking of putting a venus fly trap or some other bug eating plant in my grow room to help with flys and other bugs do you think there will be any problems with this.
bugs are fine man! spider mites are the only one that damage your plants. ladybugs are excellent for controlling spider mites. weekly vaccum the underside of leaves[hand held vaccum]dustbuster. low humidity, lots of air movement and keep temp.down, helps alot too.
i can't see there being any problems having a venus flytrap near your crop.. however, they might be famous for eating bugs, but they don't actually eat that many...... so i doubt they'll be very effective against any bug-problems
Amazing plug I was thinking about that very thing yesterday. There are many bugs that can harm plants, inc. whitefly's and fungus gnats. Predatory plants may help prevent an infestation. And there are other predatory plants besides Venus Flytraps. One is called a Sundew. The blossoms are sticky and can digest food. When an insect lands it gets stuck, can't leave and gets digested. Another kind, the Pitcher plant, lures insect into a pitcher-like flower. The sides are steep and slippery; once in the insect can't climb out and is digested by the liquid at the bottom of the pitcher. Drawbacks: Predatory plants don't consume many insects. Like every other plant on earth they get most of their nutrition through it's roots. They evolved in area's (swamps) that couldn't provide them enough nutrition in the soil for the roots to feed on so the ability to catch and digest insects evolved, but we're talking like a tiny fly every week, so you'd need a gang of 'em. And because they evolved in swamps, they prefer super-humid conditions.
hope it works, i had one of these that fungus gnat lava happily killed off, yep fungus gnat lava VS venus fly trap = tha lava wins
