Today in my Economic/Government class I have a Republican Teacher who like to press his views on the me and my fellow students, anyways today we (the class) was talking about Gas prices and he told that class that if it wasn’t for hard-headed liberals we could dig in The Gulf Cost for Oil, instead of depending on other nations for it. He then told my class, “Who cares if a few dumb animals die, they have been around here long enough…” What do you think, I should do, I try to say stuff a few time before, but I get nervous in front of people and I can’t go to any other teacher because I live in a small town and a lot of the school administrators are Republican pricks… So my question is what would you do???
I grew up in a small desert town in Nevada surrounded by nothing but conservatives.. I never agreed with them and often found myself getting in debates that they chewed me all over for. Debating with them NEVER worked... But everyone's entitled to their own opinion.. Later, when the time comes, we will see who's right.. When carelessness for the world overpowers good.
Say: Thank you for helping me remember why I am a hard-headed liberal, and not a brainless, as well as heartless, conservative. It won't change his mind, but maybe your fellow students are still impresionable.
Sounds like he's off the class topic (the issue with Jay Beamish here in Colo who bush-bashed in his geography class.) I'd have a chat, really low key, with the principal. Be clear you are not wanting to start anything, but simply you think the comments are extracurricular, and could the comments be reined in. Call the state teachers' union and see what the usual rule is before you do that.
I think drumminmama is on the right track. He is off topic...if you were talking Natural Resource Economics or something, then he is entitled to his opinion, but I hope he says "In my opinion..." when he says stuff... Kids are impressionable...they have a tendency to think how they think teachers want them to think (get all that?). Yeah, talk to the principal...that will be your first step.
Dude... no way... my government teacher is like the EXACT SAME WAY! He is always saying he doesnt see any need for any "tree hugging". He is a pretty good guy tho and me and him get along on a lot of things because we both like trivia and stuff. But I am sure we will end up clashing soon. We got into a discussion one time about organically grown food and he was like just because it says its organic doesnt mean that its really organically grown. I should have said something like well just because your bible says its true doesnt mean it is because he is always talking about church and how he knows evolution isnt true and stuff.
Thats a good answer.. Just speak your mind man, who cares what people think if you're standing for something thats important to you. Tell him animals are LIFE. I can't believe he's calling liberals hard headed, thats hilarious.
better than soft-headed, I guess. Here's a quote for you: a compliance officer with the EPA (region 8, I think-Colorado) told me that when Rs were in the White House, no protection is done. When Dems are in the white house, no compliance is done. Since he's been there over a decade 9closer to two), I'm inclined to agree with his observations.
this asshat is a TEACHER? Definitely say someting in front of the class- even if it means interrupting. "Been here long enough?" Does he think he is god? Egotistical prick.
I don't think he was off the topic of the reason for gas prices. It was an example of supply and demand. His comments about the environmental impact of digging (sic) for oil sounded like a quick aside rather than the focus of his lecture. What would you want to say? Perhaps practicing here would help you organize your thoughts and help you get over being nervous.
Ask him how much oil he expects the Gulf Coast will yield. Then ask him how long he expects that will last.
