This was more of a curiousity than a necessity of needing information-- For those of you that used to wear nothing but pants then decided to transition into skirts/dresses, how long did it take you to feel comfortable in a skirt? For some of you this is going to be an odd question, but I always wear pants so putting on a skirt feels so foreign to me. But because of a combination of weight loss, the nearness of warm weather, and seeing the wonderful creations some of you awesome ladies put out, I am itching to sew and wear some skirts and dresses myself.
i don't really remember it being much of an issue, actually...wear both now, but definitely prefer skirts. however, i always wear shorts under my skirts because i don't quite trust myself to behave in a skirt-worthy manner!
lol. i just put one on and go. it is too cold for me right now though. I think you will find skirts both comfortable and liberating when you wear one so go for it!
i'm that way too. i've always been sort of a "tom-boy" when i was younger and i never wore dresses or skirts. i've seen alot of skirts that i love and then i buy them but then i never end up wearing them because i cant shake the uncomfort factor when i put them on. i feel so weird or like i look totally retarded in them and so i give in and put on my ripped jeans and then i feel fine. i've got some cute skirts that have been sitting in my closet since i bought them and i cant bring myself to sell them on ebay.
I'm the complete opposite! I LOVE skirts and dresses and feel awkward in pants. Once you start wearing them regularly you wont ever want to go back. Just start wearing them every day and you'll see what I mean. Elle - I actually feel that way about pants. I feel sooooo much more 'me' and more comfy in skirts. Funny how different we all are.
I tend to live in pants/jeans from about October through til about May or June. I will occasionally wear a long skirt with knee high boots in winter time but the pants/jeans are still more prevalent. I hate my legs since they are overly muscly like a football or rugby player, and not very feminine. In the warmer weather I wear long floaty skirts to work and short denim ones for leisure, both with chunky sandals. It always takes a few times of skirt-wearing for me to adjust to the difference in feel, that air on my legs, etc. Also, I have to wait for my legs to get into that summer mode, ie, with a slight tan on them to get rid of that pasty winter look.
i've done that to a few pairs of my pants - where the crotch area wore out... I didn't want to part with the pants so I converted them to skirts, they look so great
i'm a jeans and t-shirt kinds of girl...for me the key to wearing a skirt is trying not to feel dressed up. i usually feel awkward cause any skirt is dressy for me. if i wear a jean skirt and tank in the summer with some flip flops i usually still fill dressed down down to be in my element and that makes getting used the skirt alot easier...for me atleast
maybe begin by wearing pants under your skirts? that way you can wear skirts in the cold weather too. sometimes i do that. of course, depending on the skirt, you might be inclined to wear stretchy pants, which bring up a whole other slew of issues!
For me, I would much rather be in skirts than pants. I've always been that way. My mother had to battle with me when I was a little girl on gym days because I was forever wanting to wear dresses and skirts, and absolutely detested having to wear pants!
yeah i say try wearing pants under skirts to get used to it... i think skirt are soo much more comfortable than pants, much more room to move
I've got double the number of skirts as pants. I'm wearing a skirt right now. I can't wear store-bought dresses, because most are built for women with cleavage, which I have not... But... now that I have a sewing machine, I'll probably try making a simple dress.
it was really weird for me to do the pants/skirt transition. It may have been different from me because in an instant i went from dressing like a trashy top 40 bar whore to a prairy peasant girl. But after a couple months of groovin the style skirts became the way. Now after mostly wearing skirts for the last 3 years when people see me in pants, that's when they question me."OMG I COULD NEVER PICTURE YOU IN PANTS!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING???!!!!" I haaaaate it hahaha. But like an above poster said, i have double, if not triple the amount of skirts as i do pants. I own only 5 pair of pants as opposed to probably 20 skirts/dresses.
haha that's how it is for me....formal dresses in high school were a nighmare, and always ended up looking ridiculous in the boob region because i have nothing there.... along that line...does anyone by any chance have any simple instructions for sundresses? i've been tempted to just jump right in and figure it out myself, but if anyone has any suggestions that'd be cool too...
