there is no constitutional right to secede. Furthermore, we have a SC case saying that states are part of an 'indissoluble relation' and can only be broken off by mutual consent or revolution Except they are all playing English sports: soccer and rugby. They are playing on English terms. England won.
To be fair you live in Wales and probably most people you know are Welsh. So saying noone you know shares these views is irrelevant. Just watch the streets of London everytime The Queen has a parade and look at the fuss that is made if someone like Prince Charles even so much as blows his knows. Like it or loathe it people love the Royal Family. I used to think they were shit as well but as time went on I realised how lucky we were to be one of the few nations to have a monarchy especially one so heaped in tradition. Even people outside the UK love the Royal Family. When people come to London what do they go to see first and I can tell you for a fact it isn't the London Dungeon or that great big ferris wheel that used to block the view from my office window. (the wheel is still there, I'm not). Buckingham Palace is one of the world's great tourist spots and why is that. Because people love The Queen. I really don't think I'm talking for a minority. I don't look up to the flag per se but I certainly wouldn't burn it. The thing I really like about it all is that with a republic like in the US they have this President who everyone hates at the moment. Soon he'll be gone and probably forgotten as the next victim is put in place. They have noone other than their president to look up to. We have Tony Blair as our prime minister and it doesn't matter what shit comes out of his lips I can say I'm proud to be British on the basis whatever happens he'll soon be gone, another loony will take his place but The Queen will remain. I'm also one of the few that hopes Prince Charles gets his turn at being King because that man has done great things for the UK.
number one, i have lived in wales since september, and i only know two welsh people, this i s auniversity town, where the majority of its students are english, i could same to you, that you live in scotland, but i won't make generalisations like that. me personally really dislike the idea of royalty, and i don't need pictures from a parade to show me that people like it, because we live in a nation of 60 million people, and that one picture of a parade doesn't represent anything to me. i didn't once say others outside the UK dislike our royalty, i said that the majority if not all, of my generation who i have come across do, it may be biased, but all my friends, and people i know have ideals in which the royalty should be gotton rid of. i won't 'like' someone i havn't met who happened to be born into power. i believe in democracy and the power of people, not the 'power' of hereditary. we will never come to a agreement because we have different ideals, and are from different generations peacex
It doesnt say you can, but it doesnt say you cant either. Besides, the states had seceded, they were a seperate country, and the US attacked them, plain and simple. States were individual governments, like the countries of Europe. And like the countries of Europe, if they go EU, they lost their rights and individual idenities when they joined. Even if the right to secede doesnt exist, that still doesnt mean that the South is not occupied by a foreign power. Just like Ulster,Scotland, and Cymru.
England invented loads of other sports but we lose at them frequently enough... For example Cricket (except for the recent upturn which seems to be going downwards again) and Tennis. The Scots aren't better at England at Cricket but most other Commonwealth nations are. The Welsh and English play Cricket all under the name England even though its the English and Welsh Cricket Board. In recent years England have been better than Scotland and Wales at tennis with Henman but he is a one off and now Andrew Murray of Scotland is better than him and lets face it none of them are world beaters. So inventing a sport doesn't make you the likeliest to be best at it.
I could burn it, I don’t feel like an American (even thought I am consider to be), I feel like a HUMAN BEING, why must we always associate our self from where we come from. Plus the flag is only a thing, it can’t feel or show you kindness. Plus, I agree with the original ideas of America when it first started, but it was only a silly dream, oh well…
that's not what i meant. England invented the sport and they have adopted English culture. It doesn't matter if England wins or loses. England has won in what 'really matters' and that is making sure their culture is more dominant. The Scots, Irish and others have to beat the English as their own game. They have lost.
i do not believe this at all, if people took this stance, humanity would never have progressed, the history you talk about, may have come about because of a union in the past between tribes. we need to evolve socially, and if that means breaking down the barrior of nations states in Europe so be it, i am all for it, its a great risky experiment is the EU, but i believe it is worth the risk, and i do not believe cultures will be lost, because i believe people will hang onto their language, traditions in europe, the EU has been moving since its creation, and i do not see any loss of culture because of the EU. the only loss of culture i see, is the americanization of the UK because our high streets and malls are filled with shops.
In truth the Royal Family hold very little power anymore and therefore democracy isn't at stake. The house of lords is a joke not based on the fact that people can be there because their dad used to be uncle to a King but because people can now pay to be a lord. The true family tree is still there and real lords, dukes, earls etc exist in modern Britain. As for democracy we live in the two tier government whereby the house of lords (unelected chamber represented by peers) can veto and change laws made by the elected chamber. (house of commons). I do think this system is flawed and this is something we will probably agree on but I wouldn't get rid of the house of lords. I would reform it. The UK invented democracy... The king basically stated that you decide what happens in the land but if the power goes to your head prime minister I will take the power back and thats what really we can still have. If Tony goes too far and refuses to leave then the Queen can remove him from office. In reality the press would hound him out and common sense would most likely prevail because all in all we are very civilised over here. I ask you this..... Britain has been a powerful nation respected by all for so long. Why do you want to change it so much? What is so bad about this country?
I disagree, culture will go down. It happens here. Southern culture is on the decline, because of Northern influences. And, if the EU forms to a real level, and the US, then they start to expand, and other unions form, eventually there will be a World Union. What happens when we dont like that government? The whole "love it or leave it" argument wouldnt have much effect would it.
and thak God is has, but what i meant was the current movement of the EU and where it is heading in the future
what is the current state of the EU? Last i heard it was in complete disarray after france said no to the constitution.
for a world union, the world would have to agree to it. i still believe that if a world gov't took office, it would be purely a constitution level- with say the Humans Right Act, local issues are still key, as within the EU. The EU is not the US, there are differences, and differences to where people want to take it.
invent was the wrong word..... (it was invented in ancient Greece). Can't quite think what the right word is.
who did you hear this from?? this was a blow on ONE front, the EU hasn't collapsed at all. the EU is doing exactely as it has been in the past. the great thing is, that if a state decides against something such as the constitution, it can be voted down by the poeple, it doesn't shut the project down at all. come to Europe and claim the EU is in disarray, and I am sure you will find many who disagree
The states had to agree to the Union of States as well, then when they backed out, they got attacked. What peace that formed right! Millions died over that union, and the EU or World Union would result in the same. Take peoples idenity, you take their self worth. And the EU is not the US, fuck the US is not the US. The EU will change to tyranny, just like the US did. Think this is the land of the free? not since the last person signed the document.
how can you believe that the house of lords is a joke because of hereditary periarage and not the royal family. and just to correct you the House of Commons CAN by pass the HOuse of Lords after 2 failed attempts. if the Queen attempted to remove Blair from office, the Queen would be out of power sooo fast. she knows her place, and knows what will happen if she steps out of line so therefore because YOU believe it is powerful, then therefore we shouldn't try and improve, with that thinking Britain would've have advanced in the past, we would've stayed living in the past, it is change that evolves a nation. you are the one holding this country back
