No offense, but I don't think this forum is the place to get an answer to this... but hey, prove me wrong. With OG down this is the only board I'm on aside from the place I asked this question first - and didn't get a concrete answer. I have a 400 w HPS ballast and have been running a halide conversion in veg. I've seen it be claimed those expensive (though no more than a conversion bulb) Hortilux HPS bulbs have a blue spectrum enhanced enough to be better than a conversion halide, while still being the choice for flower. True/False? I need to order bulbs soon and don't know which way to go.
Hortilux or son agro blue enhanced hps bulbs put out more blue spectrum then a standard hps but not a halide conversion, but any hps supplies more of whats needed in flower. There is more then enough blues in any enhanced hps bulb out there to quench a plants thirst while in veg,son agro was my choice over hortilux, but I always avoided conversion bulbs due to cost and shorter life expectancy.Anyhow, false
yeah i agree with mean,i think son-agro 430 hps works very well. conversion bulbs are handy if u plan on a small garden and want to use the same ballast.
Not trying to change the subject but I'm using a 400W switchable ballast that I run MH during veg and HPS during flower. It seems to do well but I WAS wondering if upgrading to one of your aformentioned Hortilux or Son Agro bulbs would make a difference. Right now it's running the Phillips bulbs that came with the ballast. Hope I didn't step on any toes!
You will get more blues from a mh or conversion bulb, but if ya dont want the hassle of 2 bulbs the son agro or any hps with added blues will do ya just fine. You get a more compact plant when ya use a mh or conversion then you will with a added blue hps oir standard hps.Standard hps bulbs tend to stretch the plant in veg a little more then a mh due to lacking in the blue spectrum.
