hello everyone... i have had to get a "real" job in a call center and i was told to dress "dressy casual" i didnt really understand what that meant so i asked and the lady said no jeans.. well that really helps... any way i own very few clothes and 96% are jeans and t-shirts does anybody have any ideas of "dressy casual" with out spending a lot of money and still being able to be comfortable... oh yeah and not looking like a complete dork...
    Thanx

Well, it means you need to hit a thrift and get say, 4 nice flowy skirts and 5 shirts if you do laundy weekly.
T-shirt can work with a jacket. I have a lovely Guatemalan jacket in blue, tan and black that works wityh half my clothes (the rest are purple and green)
I get by with long-sleeved T-shirts, but I have to take careful care of them to avoid them seeming casual (I am a reporter and the company decided we all looked like slobs last November and laid a dress code on us)
I'd avoid denim in any form.
Trousers and a button up shirt works, too.

I personally am more comfortable in pants than skirt, so I tend to go for a more pants 'dress down' look, although still can have a business casual look.

Easy way to figure it out: buy 5 pairs of 'dressy' pants - essentially, no denim at all in there. (Black goes with everything.) Then, just match up 5 or 6 shirts that'd match the pants. As was posted before, a jacket or nice sweater even can cover up a tshirt... although ur also best to stay away from logo'd shirts too. (A Metallica t-shirt under a blazer never looks good, EVER.) :)

I will say, business casual is still not a confortable style for me. But i will agree with drummin momma, hit up some thrift stores. New off the rack is not worth the money in the long run (as in you may not stay with the job by your own choice or not). It's understandable that we all have to get a job to survive, but paying an ungodly ammount to make your boss happy, shouldn't be in you plan book for a sucessful career.

    Good luck and hang tough.

Just avoid looking like the servers at the local corporate restaurant!
