I've been lurking around hipforums (camping/outdoor) and several other survival type forums. While I lean more torwards the politics of hipforums, I've noticed that there's alot of general posts. Not that its a bad thing, just not that informative to people really trying to improve wilderness skills. Here are the best ones I have found... BUT i must put a disclaimer on them because they are generally VERY right wing, militant, somewhat racially biased (putting it nicely). Just ignore the bs ranting and make use of the woodscraft/homesteading info!www.frugalsquirrels.com (must register but its worth it)www.bushcraftuk.com/www.survival.com/IVB/ (hoodlums survival forum) nice pics sectionwww.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=1&f=123 (huge but lotta bs)http://www.survivalforum.com/modules.php?name=Forums (very specific sub forums for easy navigation) I hope this helps everyone... don't discount the info just because of the political views -Bob
Thank you for the excellent links! This is sorta what I've been needing. Not that I couldn;t find this info, and I do have a survival book ("Tom Brown's field guide to wilderness survival" which I recomment), but from a quick look, these links have other info that I'd find useful. Can we sticky this? EDIT: found this site, seems good http://www.wildwoodsurvival.com/index.html
I have aquired an old 1914 American book talking about "shacks and shanties". In it it talks about how the inferior dwellings of the dirty red man can be improved significantly by the great ingenuity of the white man. The book itself isn't too bad, though many of the structures of the "superior white man" look a right shambles...
