the greek myth about Oedipus killing his father and marrying his mother, it chages the whole meaning of the song 'The End' for me.
humm. but wasnt the father part because of densmore trip in the desert.. where he mentionned he hated his father and stuff..?! whats the story though?
There's a reason why that part of the song is called the Oedipal part. Definitions of Oedipal on the Web: The Oedipus complex is a concept developed by Sigmund Freud, who inspired Carl Jung (he described the concept and coined the term "Complex"), to explain the maturation of the infant boy through identification with the father and desire for the mother
Yeah, I know he has a different meaning for it, but I just think of it everytime I hear the song. The story goes that Oedipus's father, Laius, was told by a prophet that his son would grow up to kill him, and marry his wife. When Oedipus was born, his parents put a pin through his ankles and left him on a hill to die, so it wouldn't come through. A shepherd found him on the hill though, and raised him, and a bunch of other stuff happens, but the point is he ends up marrying his mother and killing his father.
man. my favorite one of Jim's poetry work is in "the celebration of the lizard" that is a crazy song... one of my faves
i love that one.the first time i heard it that one part when he yells scared the shit out of mei literally jumped
didnt Oedipus, after finding out that he killed his father and married his mother, stab his eyes out and wander the desert blind to get back at himself for doing such a horrible thing? the whole story is kind of hazy to me, but i remember the act of reading it
HAHA yea same here.. but i listen to this song alot when im high.. so i always forget the part and jump anyways lol
i was laying on the ground and was all like"wow this is mellow shit".then 23f5u33@# it's fun making my friends listen to it for the first timeand too see then freak out
yeah... that song is awesome. but i shouldn't talk about jim and his poetry, i can't be objective. i love every song and poem...
i really dont care to much for the ending part of that song...the beginning is good, simple and true. i havent listened to the doors in a long time though...they arent my cup of tea
