Some of my favourites that come to mind are Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) Beth Gibbons (Portishead) Dorothy Moskovitz (United States Of America) Martina Topley Bird Beyonce Knowles Linda Perhacs Margaret Morgan (These Trails) Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star) Ella Fitzgerald Minnie Ripperton Jane Birkin probably missed loads out but they'll do for starters
Right now, I'd have to say Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star would be my favorite. There are other female musicians out there who I listen too, And I might like more of their songs (Mazzy Star is just too slow and depressing sometimes) but overall I LOVE the way she sings.
Ani Difranco and Tori Amos are by far my favorite. I really dig ani's slam poem/song self evident. yall should check it out
Out of that list I would say Mazzy Star, Cocteau Twins, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday I like Chan Marshall's voice in Cat Power but she is such a horrible performer that I have to reconsider. Stereolab is good too Blondie
Yeah, I wasn't sure which one it was. But it was definitely sad. People that belong to awesome bands should be allowed to die!
I'm quite surprised that no one mansions Joan Baez. (you should watch her woodstock performance ) Janis, Joan B. Beth Gibbons (Portishead) Betty Smith Bronagh Slevin (Crustation)
Norah Jones Anastacia (I like her voice, but not her songs!) Alanis Morissette Amy Lee Courtney Love Avril Lavigne Natalie Imbruglia Lauryn Hill (she's absolutely great!) Mary J. Blige
Joni Mitchell Ani Di Franco PJ Harvey Sheryl Crow Alanis Morrisette (I prefer her older stuff) And Tarja Turunen from Nightwish, even tho I don't really like their music that much. I just adore her voice. And she's a really nice person too.
janis joplin, grace slick, courtney love and brody dalle. oh i like kat bjelland from katastrophy wife too. they're all great.
