I know how most of you would feel about the Vietnam War and how it may or may not be justified but out of curiousity....

...do you think the U.S. was justified in going to war in WW2? If not, then what's your opinion? I'm asking because most of America would agree (including myself) that war was justified because of security reasons (Pearl Harbor, Nazi spies in America, etc.).

I absloutely feel it was necessary, the Germans and Japanese needed to be stopped before they laid waste to the rest of the world. My grandfather bombed Germany 25 times, he was a peaceful guy but believed it was necessary so he joined and went.

I'm sure i would have done the same if I were around back then.

Both the campaigns in the Pacific and Europeans theaters were justified, and I think we could have made things a lot easier if we had gotten involved in Europe in WW2 sooner, but it was complicated. Strategy aside, there was no passive solution for the US except ones that involved all asia being divided up between the Soviets and the Japanese, and Europe being controlled by the Nazi's.

The reason why we weren't involved sooner was our policy of isolationism. We didn't want to get involved but of course....no world war would be complete without the U.S.A., I guess. Thanks to the heartless Germans and Japanese, we were at war (who else was gonna save the French from total occupation?).

We also had our security on the line. Since our alliance with Great Britain was made in 1940 (we TECHNICALLY entered the war in 1940, according to my professor), our security was at stake because the Nazis could send spies to South America and take advantage of the anti-American sentiment and go through the Panama Canal and do some serious damage. Fortunately, that never happened.

yea, what was it, the zimmerman note i think that was intercepted en route to the president of mexico from germany calling for an allience and for mexico to attack the U.S. that cetainly would have changed how the war progressed. but i believe we were waranted to enter ww2. now iraq is another question. however i do believe we are justified being in afganistan.
