Figured I'd introduce myself..: My names Andrea, 18, boston-born/miami-resident, this summer I'm venturing out with my best mate of 12 years (Naomi) and we're feeling a little overwhelmed. whats the word with free/cheap places to sleep in the US ? so far ive got: intentional/egalitarian communities couch surfing camping hostels anything else? any tips on the above (haggling down prices, bartering, etc) EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING IS APPRECIATED also, what are some good ways to make money while out on the road and unable to settle for longer than a week? does panhandling&busking work well?
Nice to meet you. Staying on the beach is just one suggestion. You could also try for temporary farmhand work, its a good way to get some cash and usually comes with a meal and a place to stay.
The success of panhandling varies, when im hitchin/wanderin around I make lots a hempy jewelry and try to sell that, its also good for greasing the wheel of progress in bumming rides, like be sweetsy and give em one of your bracelets, gives goodvibes, they pick up on that and it smooths things out.
we have a little car we're taking with us so hitchhiking wont be a problem, its more a matter of paying off needs (food, lodging, car insurance).. so any extra flow of cash helps a lot. do you sell many bracelets on the road? we were thinking of doing crafts and hemp jewl. (one of making while the other drives)
