I was wondering if anyone ever hops or has hopped trains. Me and my friends hang out down on the tracks near my home, so they've been a big part of my life. I've always wanted to hop the trains that ride by and ride them out west... or at least get a ride home any cool experiances?
nowadays its very dangerous.. ive rode plenty of trains years ago,, an i know kids that still do,, an i know kids that cant anymore because of losing limbs hopping them. when hopping trains never ever do it alone.. there are traveling hobo gangs just lookin for marks to prey on. if ya do it enough sooner or later yer gonna get punked alone or not..
once again, reality kicks me in the stomick these trains are pretty safe. They come by slowly enough that you wouldn't loose a limb... hell, i'll take the chance.
yeah ok when that son of a bitch grabs yer arm an yanks you like a bull elephent even tho yer runnin faster than it dont tell me i didnt warn you .. just october i hung out a bit with a 18 year old brother missin a leg from hoppin a train,,somethin he had done 100's of times before.. also ya better damn well be sure wich way that trains headed,, you think its headed south an it turns a diffrent direction when it gets outta the yard ya may find yerself freezing to death..
I had thought of it years ago, when living and traveling on the road...but the dangers of it caused to me stop and think more about the idea...did not want to lost part of my body or get pummled by hobo gangs that I have read about being out there...but the idea of adventre and just hopping on and not really knowing where you will end up has a good feeling... now am not roaming too much these days as I have two teen sliving with me, but hope to get summer months off from this year from work and hit the roads for a couple of months again.
if ya can count the bolts on the wheel you can "safely" hop on. bring enough food and water just incase ya get stopped way out in the middle of nowhere. ive learned that one the hard way. stay away from the yards, yer best bet is to hop off at the two mile before the yard. get a crew change so ya know wich way yer train is going. jam a spike in the door when yer on boxcars so they dont slide shut and lock ya in. you talkin bout matt hillbilly? years ago we were sittin at the jungle outside the salt lake train yard,, had befriended a old timer hobo,,.. he set us up,,was positive that train was headed to L.A... train left the yard we hopped on an before we knew it,,it was headed straight west in late january.. we were on a car carrier,(before they started caging them) we had 3 options,,go thru the high desert an the seiarras in a open car, bust a window on a car an ride it out,, or,,well.. we wound up truckin up to a engine when it stopped on a switch track.. actually got busted on a engineers walkthru in elko nevada.. he told us to keep outta site till we got over the mountain then get the fuck off cause he was gonna have to tell the bulls.. we survived.. hella lot more to that story,, but i wont waste yer time..
