how's that really going for you? When I was 15 I could hardly seem to go more than 6 hours without floggin' the bishop. Shit, who am I kidding; I'm still horny as hell ;)

Anyways, I'm not Catholic anymore, so I don't really do the Lent thing (didn't do it when I WAS a Catholic). But I do tend to take breaks from, say, smoking weed around this time of year (late winter). I don't really know why, coincidence I guess. Right now I'm more trying to get rid of all my unneeded possessions, which is a lot. Throwing stuff out, donating books to the library. Really not finding much that I really want to keep, it's good to simplify.

I grew up Catholic (I'm kind of not really anymore)...and I kind of feel that to give up a food substance or whatever is not really what Lent is about. I mean...if you are doing it with the thought of giving up a material thing to get closer to God...then yes...
ok...but most people don't think that way...its something they HAVE to do...because their church says so. I always felt it would be better to instead of giving up a material thing (or perhaps in addition) ...pray more...help people...become a better person.... and if you are also giving up a bad habit...that's good too...but focusing on the material part alone...telling people...whining and complaining...that's no good...then its pointless. I think Jesus says something along the lines of...if you are going to fast and/or pray...don't do it out loud,in public for all the world to see...but rather...keep it between you and God.... :) This is just imho...
