Hi, I'm going to Amsterdam in a few months for the first time, just started planning the trip and I need to know where to stay that doesn't require too much walking to get to the coffeeshops, is reasonably priced and clean... approximately a 3 star hotel. Something nice but not extravagant and is cool about smoking. I heard it's best to go to the coffeeshops locals go to even if it means a taxi ride, is that true? I also heard summer is a lot more expensive for rooms, is it? Seems to me after reading in this forum that the weed over there is more expensive than here. Also, where's the best place for space cakes and a good coffeeshop I won't get ripped off? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
are u going with friends, if so how many? how many euro's per person per night would fit your budget? Many of us on this board are knowledgable and helpful but we aren't mind readers
Going with another person, yes. I was hoping to spend about 100. a night or less on a room per person. I found a 3 star hotel that was only 500 Euros for the 4 nights called the Best Western (I'm guessing part of the chain) that is located near the park. Seemed to be farther away than stated in their ad, but a great price nonetheless. Has anyone ever stayed at Rokin or the A Train hotels? Do they have hidden charges for water and electricity? HELP lol
I liked Barneys (great breakfast) and the Gray Area as far as coffee shops were concerned stay away from the varios Bulldogs - they were pretty much commercialized crap - the mcdonalds of coffee shops
so you have 200 euros per night between the two of you and need accommodations for 4 nights. thats plenty of coin to work with......are you open to apartments or do you prefer hotels?
First time? Definitely hit Amnesia. They are sooo friendly and really good quality. Try it you won't regret!!
I was hoping to stay 4 nights for two people for about 6-700.00 USD in a decent place. I suppose I prefer a hotel just because I dont know my way around and a hotel could be helpful in that area. I was looking at the Rokin. What do you think about that place? I'm sure you've seen it as it's right in the middle of everything by Dam Square. Thank y'all for all the helpful advice!
ok with that being clarified, you have about 120euro's per night for the room. I recommend staying north of damsquare if possible. I'll check some hotels out for ya in a few days....I'm going to the shore in 12 hours!
Wow koop, thanks! How much is the really good weed there and which kinds do you recommend? I saw Morning Glory was popular. How much is that per gram? I hope I can help someone one day in here as you have helped me and good luck at the casino!
I will be in Amsterdam on March 18th and am staying at the www.bulldoghotel.com in one of the private rooms at about 95 euro's a night. Coffee is shop downstairs. Dorms are even cheapter, seems like a clean and well run establishment. I did look at different options, and even thought about a house boat. With just two of us, the house boat was not practical, but http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/europe/netherlands - 1596 really was a helpful site. I hope you find it useful. James

[/QUOTE] I rent a great houseboat every year with my girl for only 850 euros a week with an awesome location and has everything including a king bed, washer/dryer etc.., you will never rent anything else once you rent a houseboat. Here we are on last years houseboat. enjoy yourself!!! www.amsterdamhouseboat.nl
Just got back last night, stayed in Hotel France. Its located about 1-2mins. from central station, got a great deal on the hotel thru the website, www.hotels.nl Couldnt have asked for any better location or a better room. 1-2mins. from RLD and all the fun of amsterdam.
You shouldn't worry too much about location. You can pretty much walk anywhere within the canal area within a half hour and the trolley are easy to use. Don't waste your time with a taxi. Walking is more fun, too!
I found REALLY good weed going for 8-15 euro's per gram in the center and 6-12euro's per gram on the outskirts. Haarlem definately had REALLY good weed and I didn't see any prices above 8 or 9 euro per gram. Coffeeshop Life had well cured smoke for 6 euro's a gram as well but that was all the way out in Beverwijk. I'll follow up with more accurate strain pricing in my trip report but I wanted to get these general figures out to you now.
Wooohoo koop, glad y'all are back! It was majorly dead around here. Okay the question du jour is HOW WAS SOFTLAND'S WEED AT 25 EUROS FOR 5 GRAMS?????? Worth it?? I know you said Central CS had xxx at 4+ grams for 25 euros. Was that better than the stuff at Softland? Enquiring minds want to know. *~grin~* Peace, islandgurl
white smurf at softland was incredible.....didn't care for much of anything else at that coffeeshop. But i'd recommend the 5g for 25 euro's special on all white smurf anyday. also the grey area, the coin, and hunters bar had good 5g specials. I will follow up in more detail on my trip report asap.
Really Amazing Space Cakes at Abraxas - the ones at BaBa are good - but not as good as Abraxas! Don't get the bon bons there though - they are really gross. Have a cappucino there too - seriously one of the best I have ever had and the girl behind the counter is the sweetest thing. Get the brownies with the hash.... you will be smiling!
Anybody ever get the milkshakes? They don't seem to be too popular here. Also, are the spacecakes stronger than the brownies? Keep the input coming as I leave in about 2 weeks... the countdown begins wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Peace, islandgurl
Ruslands' Space Muffins are tops! Down a couple of those on an empty stomach and you'll be golden in no time. Homegrown Fantasy has some nice tasting vanilla and chocolate pound cake too, but not quite as potent.
