I am a vegan, but Omni or not, you should find this SICK! On July 20, 2004, PETA released the results of an undercover investigation into a KFC chicken slaughterhouse in Moorefield, W.Va., where workers were caught on video stomping birds, kicking them, and slamming them against floors and walls. Workers ripped the animals' beaks off, twisted their heads off, spat tobacco into their eyes and mouths, spray-painted their faces, and tied their legs together for "laughs." The investigation was conducted at this location because it was the site of a KFC "Supplier of the Year" award ceremony, and PETA wanted to see the "best" that a KFC supplier had to offer. This slaughterhouse is run by Pilgrim's Pride, the second-largest chicken company in the U.S., after Tyson Foods. Animal-welfare experts are in agreement that the cruelty at this KFC supplier is reprehensible. Colorado State University professor of animal science, biomedical sciences, and philosophy, university distinguished professor, and university bioethicist Dr. Bernard Rollin writes, "I can unequivocally state that the behavior I saw exemplified in [this] videotape was totally unacceptable. … The tape showed evidence of a work force that apparently failed to recognize that chickens are living sentient beings capable of feeling pain and distress." Dr. Temple Grandin, perhaps the industry's leading farmed-animal welfare expert, writes, "The behavior of the plant employees was atrocious," and asserts that even though she has toured poultry facilities in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, France, the Netherlands, and the U.K., the video showed "the WORST employee behavior I have ever seen in a poultry plant." University of Guelph professor of applied ethology and university chair in animal welfare Dr. Ian Duncan writes, "This tape depicts scenes of the worst cruelty I have ever witnessed against chickens. … and it is extremely hard to accept that this is occurring in the United States of America." University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine graduate and avian veterinarian Dr. Laurie Siperstein-Cook writes, "In NO case can the behavior of the workers be considered a necessary or acceptable way of killing or stunning chickens." KFC makes me so angry. my brother likes to eat there a lot and i can't even stand to look at the food he comes out with. usually i don't mind if people around me are eating meat, but if it's KFC it just makes me really mad. I just watched the video right now, I'm so disgusted I could die.
There was an article about that in the paper today, it is just disgusting. They had damn well better do something about it. I watched the video, or at least started to. Had to stop after a while, it was too much. Should get someone thinking at least. TTFN Sage
ok, i've never really liked KFC anyway (i'm in britain & dont know if the KFC's there are any different), i can tell the chicken is pumped full of water & steroids! the best thing to come out of KFC is the corn on the cob! that is utterly disgusting! i nearly threw up! minjeig: my bf loves KFC too, i have to take him down there sometimes, i wait in the car & make him eat it inside, it repulses me & has done for a few years now! i think thats saying something about KFC as i've only been veg for two weeks!
i got this in my email, and I actually did throw up. I have a weak stomach when it comes to these things. We should try something, like make tshirts that have screenshots of this video, and wear them everywhere. Thatll get people to see what they are eating....
Yeah, um, it's gross. I've been calling them every week for like a month saying that I saw from protesters what goes on in their slaughterhouses (well actually I got it off peta's site, but if I say protesters it sounds more like they're making a bigger difference). Call them! Here's the number and what I said. Call KFC's Toll-Free Customer Service number (open 24/7) at 1-800-225-5532 and then press "1" and then "4" and someone will be with you shortly. Hi. I just learned all about the crap that goes on in your slaughterhouses. Let me just say that I’m really disappointed that you won’t work with PETA, as wendy’s, mcdonalds, and burger king has, to raise your welfare standards. I also want to say that I will no longer be buying any KFC stuff until you guys give in. I mean, tons of people everywhere are protesting and learning about you, why don’t you just do it? It helps animals AND your business, and I think it’s an incredibly stupid move on the company’s part to ignore the suffering that goes on. So anyway, I hope you guys are fine with losing thousands of dollars and customers. (then the person says that they get their chicken from the same place your grocery store does) Sigh. Okay, I expected you to say that, since that’s your guys’ reply to everyone who calls about this. So let me put this differently: 1. Your customers aren’t stupid, 2. Videos don’t lie, 3. An ex-employee told the world, and 4. You no longer have my business. Thank you.
They should go to jail! If people will allow this criminals to spread this infection of violence, the wars will go on forever
God, that was terrible. i hate it when people say to me 'but it was killed humanely' cos the fact of the matter is you can never really know. i wonder if showing them this or meet your meat would make a difference to them? Does Australian KFC use the same suppliers? will have to find out.
Me: I was watching watching this KFC video from PETA... Mel (my friend): eww...I don't like KFC's pitas...they taste funny... Me: Melissa! The animal rights group PETA! Mel: Ooooo! Ooops...What was it about? Me: The chickens. They were being horribly abused...thrown against the wall and stuff... Mel: That's how they kill them? Me: ::sigh:: Nevermind.
hey that's a good idea.. I think I'm gonna try to call them later. As much as the video pisses me off, what makes me even madder is that people can hear about it or see the video and still go out and buy their chicken. I'm never EVER going to eat or drink ANYTHING from kfc again (i used to buy their tea frequently) . They don't deserve the business. I was trying to tell my friend about it earlier and she was like "yea oh well, i love their food so i'm still gonna eat it." I just don't get it....
i think PETA and their members who do this undercover work are awesome and deserve a medal. frikking good job!
I agree, very noble of them. My parents are a bit like that. Not with KFC per say, but meat in generally. Trying to teach them is just too frustrating so I've given up. But my brother.... yeah he's ripe for corruption. :X
noble? are u being sarcastic? I think they do an awesome job, i would hate to go undercover and take videos of this abuse, it must be horrible to do. Thank goodness they do this yuck work, without them animals would have even less of a voice.
that is just horrible...i tryed to watch the video but had to stop. it was to much. that they acctually do that is just horrifying. my sister's friend worked at a KFC. she said it was disgusting and that her manager made her make green chicked and such. i'm a vegitarian. but i can stand it when people eat meat like near me or something. but KFC is just not even meat almost. it's disgusting the way they treated those poor chickens!
I actually just found this http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3915599.stm on vegan.com. I had no idea that KFC would even care at all!
they care about profit lines. Bad press leads to lower profits. they fired 11 employees...out of how many thousands??? you cant just fire people and "investigate"...you have to change what you are doing altogether.
You're definately right, they're not doing anywhere close to enough and what they are doing is only to save themselves from looking like really big assholes, but after seeing that video and how disgusting it was, it was nice to know that they were doing something. Nowhere close to enough, and definately not for the right reasons, but at least it was something.
