and if they don't have a % of blacks roughly equal to their makeup in the US population they're called racist.

    Notice the "IN THEORY"

the Supreme court Ruled that the University of Michigan COULD use race as a determining factor in admissions because it created a 'diverse student body to learn from."

    err riiight.

It did however, knock down the U Of M's law school policy which PHYSICALLY GAVE minorities POINTS on their admission formula.

    That is unexcusable.

I have no problem with ANY law that says it is illegal for employers to deny a job because of race, religion, creed and all that other good stuff. I do have a problem that gives ANY sort of advantage to a person because of race/sex, etc.. Don't you see that as a violation of equal protection when someone is given an advantage?

and yeah, the bleh sec was because i saw that after, sorry.

Leviticus 18:22 i appreciate it is a bit rich to quote something jesus may or may not have thought or felt.. but the whole of this thread rests on the interpretation of a few books.. he could have been a ranting and raving homosexual for all we know..

You are taking one area of EOE laws "Affirmative Action". So, is it AA you're against or the totality of EOE policy?

If it is AA then there is legitimate debate in many circles.

If it is EOE then there is a much smaller debate usually between rightwing extremists and those who are for fairness and ethics.

Jesus wrote Leviticus? Let me guess he also didn't want us to cut our hair and wear cotton-poly blends too, right? *lol* ;)

The O.T. also states "Eye for an eye" but Jesus says, "BUT I SAY UNTO YOU..." and made a declaration of non-violence.

Indeed. That's what the whole thread was about, but apparently it got "raped" too! *lol*

    That's ok. I've enjoyed it.

    My beef is with AA.

I have np with any laws that force public businesses/universities to allow in minorities/women.

I think better education is the real way to fix the problems that minorities/women face/have faced, not 'positive discrimination.' That's my view though.

Ok. Well, you have legitimate arguments there on both sides when it comes to AA and quotas.

The point being it is interpretation..and we have no clear idea about his actual message.. just what he is supposed to have said.

Conveniantly it is 'peace and light' with apparently no prejudice... i don't believe this to be as true as we may wish.

Were are these 'true christians' that embrace homosexuality ?.

I really want some marble cake. With chocolate icing.

  14. This thread was really funny to read, thanks guys ;)

A little off topic but what really fucking pisses me off though is when conservatives, who are so obviously conservative, want to avoid the negative connotations of the word, let off some bullshit story that they "don't fit anywhere in the spectrum". I love this...really, if you think about it critically (which obviously you have much faith in your capacity to do so) liberal and conservative are universal values, and not staunch opposites but represent different sides of a scale, they're just useful for analysis, they're not a mantra. I don't actually think libs or cons actually go around preaching the virtues of their particular religious standing on the left or right...(well maybe sometimes). I personally can't stand this...almost every fucking idea you've expressed megara is conservative in nature. And you have also expressed a clear preference for majority views.

You're not the only one. Its actually a conservative trend.....to mystically position yourself outside the spectrum because its convenient to do so. You're not special. You deserve just as much contempt as the rest of us.

And once you've gotten rid of this supposed left/right paradigm, whats left over? Once universally convenient right wing viewpoint. What an easy, cynical, low way out.

And if you read this, don't be a flying spaghetti monster and conveniently deny everything i've said as something "i'm saying for you". Thats another one of my favourite divisive arguments.

    I like marble cake too.

thanks for the personal little love fest :p

notice how i said i dont fit into 'any camp?' That means a fixed position. I'm not talking about political spectrum. When people use conservative/liberal on here, they usually refer to republican democrat. I reject the immediate comparison to bush if i say i'm a conservative, thus i say i am not. We disagree on a lot of stuff. We agree on a lot of stuff.

On the grand spectrum of politicalness i'm way liberal. Within my own country, i'm on the conservative side. See, its confusing unless we agree on the same parameters. Do we use a spectrum composing only western democracies ? do we include right wing military regimes and other non western/democratic countries? Obviously i'm way liberal compared to them. I dont care to get boggled down in the terminology.

  16. Ok, once again i've been a complete troll and you've come up with a completely rational answer.

Now that i know exactly what you're talking about...I completely see where you're coming from in the left/right idea.

I see where i'm getting confused. I'm not living in your country so i naturally use a world wide sort of scale (even thouh we're obviously conservative too). Anyway...at least you're honest. I'm mostly venting my anger from another member on here who uses that same left/right argument unwaveringly and refuses to admit that his obviously conservatives idea fit perfectly into the spectrum too. I hate it. Megara, i think most liberals outside of the US think less along the same "conventional" lines...i guess its confusing but i personally think its safer just to talk about it in the universal sense, or else its just proliferating the lies (that democrats are liberal and republicans are conservative evn though they're obviously both conservative). Just my opinion.
