Meh... The times i do go to toronto, I rarely use the subway or the other stuff... I usually walk to place to place. But I heard the wont be touching the mouthly passes. IS this true?
Are you serious? Are they trying to make people drive cars? What the fuck is wrong with these people. In all countries I lived in, bus fares were dirt cheap because the governments actually cared about the citizens and the enviorment. Idiots.
If the TTC were to have dirt cheap fare though, the government would have to back it up completely and that would mean higher taxes obviously. Im a little pissed with the fare rise, mostly because I use the subway on a daily basis, but I also see that the TTC is underfunded and can no longer cut back enough to cover their deficet while maintaing the system. Its a serious problem. Ridership is getting close to their all time high, yet not enough money is getting to them from the federal level, preventing them from maintaining a crumbling system that is in high demand.
I wonder if Harper is going to pull through with his promise to partially reimburse commuters. If so, that might encourage more people to use public transit and overlook the fare hike.
London's system is far beyond ours though! If we had a few more subway lines Id understand a higher fare, but come on, ours in pathetic.
Yikes... whats the hike for this time? Installing more flat screen televisions at Bloor? The TTC sucks. Its fine if you're heading East - West, but North - South is whole other story. By April, I'll have a bicycle, so its all good.

The TTC is one of the most, if not the most, underfunded public transit systems in the world. Up to 70% of its operating expense is paid for through its fares, the highest percentage in the world. So dont be too hard on it, it provides a fairly good service for its resources. We should lobby for more Toronto tax dollars going back into Toronto, afterall only about 50% stays in the city.
When ever I used it. I just waited for people to make a big line and then I'd just drop a quater or a dollar in. I never actually paid the enitre fee.

If it requires government funding then one would believe perhaps it has negative profitability in which case why should it continue on as it was?
