How much energy does your household use per year? Please tell me how many members and the energy use in kw if possible.

The reason I ask is I've been looking into buying a wind turbine to generate power but don't really know the wattage I should be looking at. also interrested to see how much for single vs couples vs couples with kids and so forth to properly analyse the average energy use. This would be to see how big is big enough versus cost of the turbine and set up and maintenance...

Thanks in advance to all those that reply

To tell ya how much a household uses in a year would be a matter of kw/h, not kw. But, a house will typically need something that provide 10-15 kw. 10's really the absolute minimum and 12-15 is more like it during peak draw. Unless ya live in a particularly windy area, I doubt ya can really expect to get that much from a wind turbine, which could take decades to pay for itself. Also, if ya have a lot of neighbors ya can prob'ly expect a good number of noise complaints on the occasions there is enough wind for any halfway significant output. This is quite common with wind turbines near residential areas.

I typically use around 10 kw per day and my house is in Spain and runs totally off solar power.

I have every conceivable electric appliance you could think of and also this system runs a 1kw/h water pump. Obviously I don't run them all at once. I have very few periods in which I require to use the generator as I have 30kw of backup power stored in the batteries and the fact that it rarely goes more than 3 days without sun where I live. I also need to not run any appliances that use electric "phantomly" such as leaving a tv on standby, as they continue to use electric

I can really recommend solar power as an alternative. I know people in Spain with a wind turbine that is only about 60cms (2 foot) in diametre and this is useful and makes no noise.

Also available are water generators which are very good should you be in a position to tap into a free source of water such as a stream etc.
