you actually know something about these people. you have something to judge them on other than just their appearance.

    I totally agree!
I have met lots of people who have dreads and "hippy" type clothing who have been rude. But i know lots of people who wear "normal" clothes who r great people.

doesnt individuality come from your character, not the cloth that hangs on you?
think of the people who really stand out to you that you know- is it the technicolour coat or their personality that makes you smile when you think of them

haha i am not sure i think sometimes its a compilation of both, a persons personality and the way that they dress. When you think of your friends you are going back to not only feelings that you are recalling in your brain but you are also seeing images in your heads. For a lot of my friends that includes the extreme ways that they dress. Though I really hate prejudging a person on what they wear because I myself wear a lot of tye dyes and dont want people assuming I am on drugs......I have to say its true it is the first thing you "see" when you meet a person or when you cross each others paths but it cant tell everything about that person, that takes AGES. I remember this one time that I came to a friends house wearing a RED sweatshirt and he was from the city and told me What the hell is that you cant wear that my gangs colors are blue. I was like dude Im not here to represent you or your gang or any part of that. I am just your friend. He went on and on and on and I had to take him outside in order to say LOOK you see that tye dye. I aint representing nothin I am from the country and I like EVERY color I see. He got my point eventually >>>LOL

That has its place, for sure. There are freaking white power assholes where I live. I talk to my kids about avoiding white guys with swastikas, confederate flags and shit like that. Also, there are gangsters in my neighborhood. Some are white supremecists, some are racist Native Americans and some are racist Latinos. They all hate each other and they all seem to get off on intimidating the rest of us. So, I absolutely talk to my kids about looking at the way people around here are dressed. If people are acting strange, but ESPECIALLY people that are dessed a certain way, get in the house. If a bunch of people wearing the same color gather outside, get in the house, etc. And those people are presenting themselves in a certain way on purpose. They want us to be able to look at them and know that they're assholes of a certain ilk. That's why they wear red or blue or swastikas.

i say just dress how you feel, sure other people may dress the same way because they think its the "cool" look but they dont even know what that "cool" look represents it represents a more laidback eco friendly group of people who shouldnt care that other people are dressing like us, if anything its something to have a laugh about because those people are making the care-free look more aceptable by society, its only a matter of time before i dont have to worry about some farmer calling me a fucking hippie:p

I love it! All those girls that used to look at me weird for wearing what I did, and now they're fighting to get similar stuff. Oh the irony!

It does annoy me that these clothes are purposely made to look "indiviual" but are clearly mass-produced and fall apart - I got some really pretty patch work jeans that ended up in pieces, alas, but then again, life isn't all about the clothes you wear. Those of us who truly feel comfortable in the clothes we wear will keep on wearing them, long after the fad is over, so relax and ride out the fashion storm.
