Okay...I'm 21 years old and skinny, not leading a healthy lifestyle, not eating healthily, getting very little exercise. I want to build up, not bodybuilder-style but just basically wanting to get healthy and develop a more positive self-image and feel healthier. I intend to do this as soon as I finish my degree in 3-4 months and can think about spending time money on training gear (tracksuits, trainers) and healthy food. Where should I start? I want to start swimming again (I haven't in years) but frankly am far too skinny right now to expose myself in such a way. I guess my real question is, how do I get to a point where I am healthy enough to feel comfortable doing this? I really feel that once I am shapely enough to get back in the water, once I am past this self-consciousness, I will be able to swim myself healthy.
Find something you like doing that exerts energy, I love martial arts and a bit part of it is working out/conditioning. You could try dancing or something. As far as food, I stopped eating fried food, drinking soda and cut back on the sweets.
You, know, it briefly crossed my mind that I should do some dancing...wouldn't know where to start though but it's something to think about. Cheers Kempo, you're a dear.
I was chronically underweight for years. When I married, Paul was used to eating on a schedule. I don't always do this, but it does remind me to think when the last time I put any decent amount of calories in my body. I say go swim and to hell with what anyone thinks. Swim indoors for teh most comfort if you chill easily. And yes, go dance. Clubs, friends' bands, your own stereo, whatever.
don't waste your time/money on trainers...waste it on healthy food...get a gym membership and lift some weights. If you want to gain weight, make sure its muscle. Don't worry...you won't look like a bodybuilder.
Aww, you lot are lovely. Especially you drumminmama, you give a damn good pep talk. Peace and love people
