Hey, anybody ever donated blood while you've been smoking? (Not literally the same time, but you know...while you had THC left in your system.) Do they have a problem with that? Or can you still donate if you're a smoker?
I think they check it , then after if it has drugs they dont use it... , im not sure i never donate blood in the first place but LOL i guess i woudnt when i would be smoking now would i If you mean donating it for tests to do with ur self then u might have a proble,m becasue there computers might read the THC as some other dieses or somthing.
i doubt the would accept the blood sample.. they arnt gonna run to the cops, but normally sperm, blood etc donations screen for many things, i would just assume drugs are in there the blood banks send u a letter if ur blood is rejected
No, I'm talking about donations to blood banks. It doesn't seem like it would be a problem. I mean, while there are traces in your blood, there's traces of any number of toxins we put into our system. I know they don't want you donating if you have any kind of IV drug use, because it means there's a much bigger risk of HIV transmission. I just don't know about marijuana.
Right, but if I want to know if I'd have to pick between being a regular smoker or a regular blood donor.
There was a blood drive at my school about a week ago, and they didn't screen for blood (they do take a finger sample and test for iron content, ask if you're on antibiotics, etc). Also, in the contract, it didn't say anything about a tox screening.. just an HIV screening. It went into detail about how they couldn't use it if there was HIV in it, and I'm assuming they'd be legally bound to do the same if they were going to tox screen it. Also, isn't THC fat soluble? As in, it doesn't stay in the actual BLOOD stream? And, even if it does (and I don't think it does), THC isn't the worst thing to have in your blood. The THC would be diluted in the recipient's own bloodstream, and any remaining bits would be filtered out very quickly. Just don't smoke on the same day as your test, or the day before or anything. That should be fine. I don't see why you couldn't give blood regularly, and smoke regularly as well. Just alternate them.

could be true.. im just pretty sure that they screen out drugs for sperm donors.. but ur right.. the best way to do this is just ask the blood bank if its ok if u smoke pot and give blood, emphizing that u dont use herion/ ne other iv drug
THC only stays in your bloodstream for 1-3 days I believe. Happiness_First is right, it stays in your fat. THC Metabolites (not exactly THC) stay in your fat and are secreted into your urine. I don't think it really matters if you smoke and give blood. If there was a problem with it they would specifically ask, do you use any sort of illegal drugs? Whenever I donate blood, they ask me if I've ever done any needle drugs (HIV/Hepatitus...) and that's about it. Very very few people have any sort of allergy to pot, so it should be fine. I would advise not donating blood if your high though. When your sitting down, pot can lower your blood pressure a good deal (different for everyone, but I get insanely light headed when I go from sitting to standing when I'm high) and you don't really want to have low blood pressure when they are draining blood out of you. edit: \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ They never ask if you use drugs though... I wouldn't donate blood if there was any reason not to. Do you have any idea why this would be? Also, THC can only be detected in your blood for typically 1-3 days, any amount that is secreted into your blood stream is in such trace amounts it wouldn't matter.
it leaks into the bloodstream from fat storage. you're not normally allowed to donate blood if you've been using drugs...
I am both a pot smoker and a regular blood donor. They do not drug test the blood. Having said that, the idea behind blood donation is to get good healthy blood for a patient. Any THC (or other drug) in the blood will get into the patient's system. The doctor's are counting on the blood being clean. Please, don't screw with someone's health. Wait a couple of days after smoking before donating and follow their instructions about calling if you feel ill (like a cold) within 48 hours after donating. Blood donors rock! Smoke a fatty after you are done to congradulate yourself.
i've read about this on their website before. they test, but, as long as you haven't smoked within a few hours of the test, they don't care about the cannabinoids in your blood.
Awesome, thanks guys. And MikeE, I totally dig where you're coming from. I would give several days break before giving blood. I want to give clean blood, I'm just glad that I can do that without giving up smoking for entire month or several weeks before I do. I'm not a very heavy smoker anyway, so finding a week or so of not smoking before donating would not be a problem.
this topic reminds me of 2 people, my friend with who i smoked a joint just before he give blood for a test, and another guy who smoked crack before giving blood for test, ther was no donation, but the second was for his parents i think, he was like 12 or 13 years old and smoking crack, hopefully i think he dont smokes this shit anymore
