Anyone have any comments on the Oscars last night? I have a couple of comments on the awards. On one hand, I'm glad Crash won Best Picture because it proves that a film realeased outside the typical Oscar "season" can win awards. It would be nice if the quality of movies in February and March improved as a result. On the other hand, I really believe that Brokeback Mountain is a better movie. I was pissed off that they awarded Best Cinematography to Memoirs of a Geisha. First, Memoirs of a Geisha was a crappy, soulless movie. Second, how much genius does it really take to film great art direction and costuming? The New World SHOULD have won, but since a lot of people don't like Malick films, I would have been happy to see the award go to Good Night and Good Luck. Re. Memoirs of a Geisha, I'm willing to admit that it looked great, but does a movie that actually kind of sucked deserve to get three awards, even in the technical categories? Finally, I thought that the way they handled the acceptance speeches by starting the music up immediately was consistently unprofessional and occasionally outright rude. I understand not wanting to go over, but they finished 30 minutes early, so cutting people off mid-sentence was unnecessary and tacky. I did think it was highly cool that a hip-hop song finally won best original song. I'm not particularly a hip-hop fan, but those guys were so excited when they won, that it was kind of the highlight of the entire evening.
brokeback mountain got some but it lost the major ones like actor, supporting actor, and best picture. im glad too, it goes to prove my point that theres no gay cowboys. same stars different setting woulve have won best picture. Ang lee is the man though. and best actor pissed me off...c'mon its the wierd guy from boogie nights..three 6 mafia(hustle n flow) won, i like three 6 mafia but the performance wasnt that great. jon stewart was funny as hell.
Yeah, I noticed that too. There were only three songs this year; you'd think that they would have spent more time on the production. Dolly didn't even sound that great. It kind of reminded me of a bad night on American Idol.
i havent even saw the commercials for those movies, maybe the second once but crash... i dont have the calbe since over a year or 2 now, so i dont watch TV anymore (once in a while, it's rare), but i had the calbe for free for about like 6 or 7 years
