Music I'm into is blues, jazz, and reggae. The rock I listen to include: Bob marley, hendrix, grateful Dead, Phish, etc. Right now im just jammin on my kinda crapp Fender Strat, mexican made [IMG], teal blue guitar and crappy crate practice amp.

I dont know much about pick ups, or really any thing technical about guitar electrics, But i just love that wahh sound from like a nice smooth blues guitar... with all of this in mind... what guitar(s), and/or amp(s) would you guys recommend I upgrade to, thanks.

p.s. I have about $3,000ish to spend in total.

well if you want the sound with out buying a new setup, check out the "bluesdriver" pedal - made by Boss. as for an amp, i'd at least upgrade to a used Fender. guitar-wise, go to your local shop, or a few shops, and play every guitar you like. go by feel.
    step #3: enjoy :D

I suggest you get a fender, a mid size runs a few hundred, and it will grow with your playing.

They are versatile enough to do Jimi freakouts as well as cleaner blues. They have a warm sound, and can be serviced almost anywhere. I speak from experience, its my second amp, and Ive had it for a looooong time, and have never been happy with any other.

Take your axe and try a few out, and take your time deciding. Dont let salesmen pressure you, and dont worry if you have to try em a few times to be sure. Check on their return policy and repair warranty before paying - they can be real jerks after!

loose the idea of electric guitar. its all about acoustic. if your feeling really adventurous then go for a steel or 12 string guitar. you'll find yourself and your own style with an acoustic and there better to learn on.
