we were hoping for real contact info when we went to the guide, but couldn't find any either. Even having a cyber-guide for the various cyber-communities & folks would be nice.

I thought I saw some of this info at welcomehome.org

    but I could be wrong.
There are (or used to be) a bunch of different pages there, with info on the family and some contact info for different groups...

To my knowledge, I have never seen an actual scanned copy of the Rainbow guide, anywhere posted on the net. I used to gather Rainbow links for a link site. In the process, it brought me to over 250 rainbow oriented sites, which I have visited all. I always wondered why there was not one up. At, first, I though that people were like me and just to lazy to scan it themselves. But, the more you think of it, is it wise to have it scanned and up in a pdf somewheres?

When you got a gathering, you can get one in person. You can have one mailed to you. But when it is on the net, ANYONE AND EVERYONE would have instant acess to it. Is that a good thing? Maybe, it is best that people have to go out of thier way to get one.

Another disadvantage of having a rainbow guide posted, would be the older copies that could be put up and forgotten about. People move all the time in the well traveled road of rainbow. I do not know how many older rainbow sites I have found that are abandoned and have extremley old info up [IMG]

At least people can order one. I don't even bother trying to get one every year, as I have made a donation years back ($20) and never got one. And I have requested one, twice since being in Canada.... and have not been sent one. I just patiently wait for a kind brother or sister to show up, that has an extra one to spare. Never fails. We have our copy that wandered to us out of the blue from a kind brother passing through, and we live in BFE, where hardly any rainbow exist or come through. Funny how things work that way! [IMG]

My understanding is that the Rainbow Guide, is a program guide to the National Gathering Event. Thought there are listings for businesses and individuals, the yellow pages doesn't seem to be the Guide's primary purpose.

I have worked on the Guide for the local Gay Pride Parade and festival and I know how huge of an undertaking that is for a nonprofit group. I can only imagine the logistics of putting that on line in addition to publishing the Guide on time. Publishing an online magazine that has many contributors and input is more difficult than making a home page or blog.

You could write to them and ask why a zip isn't offered on line.

High Mychal, long time no see. I've missed you. Good to see you kissing that little rodents belly again (or whatever is going on there).

Cool Phucker, you gave twenty bucks and got 5 guides, just as planned.
Funny that the guide has had halfdozen different folkalizers since then, and that the guides you got came to you round about, but you got em. I hope it doesn't keep you from sending us twenty bucks next year (heheh).

Maybe I am missing the sarcasim or something. $20 = No guides. If that is the "plan" then it worked. Money is just paper and I have gained more guidance from gatherings than any guide could give me ;)

As for sending in a donation again... I doubt I would. Sure, they give out guides for free at the gatherings. But for folks like us, that can not make it to the gathering to receive one, they send in donations. To send in donations expecting a guide, and not receive one.... teaches you a lesson. Then, to ask for one two years in a roll, and not recieve one, makes one think that you HAVE to give a donation to get one.

I understand that new people focus the guide. But, I would rather give any donations I might, to an actual magic hat at a gathering, where I know it will be accounted for ;)

We will hope someone brings up some extras to the Quebec gathering.

As for the old folkalizers and the disappearing mailinglist trick, i was just saying it's funny how things work out. I trust you and figure you know best what to do with your time, i was laughin with you.

I could bore you with lots of details of the guide hipstory, and/or i can offer you 10+ guides right now if you have a way to get them from DETROIT ! to quebec. When is that gathering? It is after july right?

Let me know if you want me to try to bore you with lots of old stories about the rainbowguide.
