    Are there stars between the galaxies? Or are the galaxies like islands of matter in a sea of nothingness?

    Yes. this is usually due to stars being ejected from galaxies. I do not know of nebulae (star forming regions) outside of galaxies, but there certainly are lonely stars out there.

    Oh i feel sorry for them... All alone up there... I just want to go up there and give them a hug...
