yep, it's already time to plan your theme camp or find yer local burner freaks for a regional. to find a burner event that isn't Black Rock City, see here: http://regionals.burningman.com/ Flipside is probably the best known non coastal one, but I see Georia and Mass, NM and Minnesota on the list this year along with four spots in Canada plus Nova Scotia (I don't know why they are separate) plus all those not really allied but the same damn folks anyway events! Starts Aug 28.
Yeah, I went to the link for Nova Scotia, so pumped that we have a burning man regional here. I've always wanted to go to burning man sooo much, but it's never really been feasible for me to go down to nevada for a few weeks . Any other Maritime burners out there, or anyone else who would be interested at all?
Woo-hoo! Drumminmama, throw a few sparks into that burn for myself and the fairy o' doom (who has worked as a greeter for many years, so you may have met her)...We can't make it again this year, it's a long way from Boston. In the past we've resided on the main blvd. as Camp Catharsis and Team Dirty, ring any bells? Anyway have fun and burn, baby, burn...
anyone familiar with Las Fallas in Valencia, Spain? i´ve never been to Burning Man, but i would imagine this blows it out of the water (as far as burning goes). http://www.fallas.com/ - here´s the official website it´s a festival with religious roots (i´m pretty sure) that goes from march 15-19th, with the final day being when every falla gets burned. now, Valencia is a fairly big city ([size=-1]797,291 people), and there are these structures made out of paper, wood, cardboard, etc. whatever will burn. people work on them meticulously for the entire year and then place them on street corners all around the city. I walked around ALL FUCKING DAY during the last day of the fesival and saw probably not even 25% of them. each one is different and they´re usually some sort of social or political commentary, much like a 3-D political cartoon. some are like, 6, 7 stories tall while others are probably only 8 feet tall. and imagine shoulder-to-shouler crowds of people, FIREWORKS ALL THE FUCKING TIME (i cant be more literal. seriously - fireworks all throughout the city, all the time. hand-held ones, huge ones, all types. people throw them at eachother - AND YOU - so you have to be careful), and lights like those of Las Vegas. it´s fucking crazy. here´s a before and after picture of the Falla de la Plaza del Ayuntamiento (the main Falla for the city): google "las fallas" and look for more pictures. this festival is going on RIGHT NOW as i type this. it ends in a few days (sunday the 19th). check it out! Hey, Burning man..yip..got this link once in chatroom.. from J Girl..seems to be must be a nice event http://www.burningman.com/
Sad to be missing Burning Man this year, but with a baby in the oven, I don't think I can enjoy Black Rock City. I have to say that it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and everyone should try to go to Burning Man at least once. You never know what amazing things you will find in the desert! Jgirl
I can't go either...it'd be sweet if any of y'all kind folks could bring back some pics from the playa. :d Whens everyone leaving?
Hey all Figured I would post here as I have a strong desire to go to next year's burn. About two weeks ago one of my teachers and I were siting in his office trying to find something that I would actually enjoy doing for my thesis project this year (art student) When he remembered the Burning Man event and google'd it. From that point on I've been going through image galleries and reading stories about personal experiences from the burn. I'm kind of obsessed with finding out and reading about what this event is (and I'm totally trying to find out how I'm getting there in 07) so any personal stories or galleries that anyone can direct me too would be great (either post here if thats alright with the thread starter or PM me if possible) thanks all. J
