ron is one upstanding brother, you'll love him. he's a pleasure to be around whether working, jamming or just hanging out. he's definitley family and his family will definitely treat you like one of their own. the people of waveland now have that old-timey front porch america thing going on again. there are going to be some big things happening there in the future, you can feel it in the air.
ya dude, i have a ride to waveland headed down on sunday afternoonish.. i kinda opted not to go, instead headed to a farm in oregon. you're post made me second guess myself.. all that love peace and helpin' people talk.. hmmmm what to do..
you're going the wrong way!lol the work ain't always easy, but it's always appreciated.and it's kind of wierd and cool at the same time to have babylonians loving you for your hippie self. you'll find your way to waveland eventually i'm sure.
kinda a strange response in rainbow thread ,,,, but also have to say atleast ya knew it werent for you,,,, before gettin there n being absolutely miserable n being of no help..... there are also other things going on in the general region that are rainbow related... n yet not sittin round feedin n entertainin a bunch of dowhearted folks that just aint got a clue what to do with life now,,,, just got this update from a brother who went from here to NO,, at first in a kitchen and now "Just a short note to keep you up to speed with events here in the Big Easy. I have relocated to a downtown to a huge warehouse that used to be an arts cooperative and was destroyed by Katrina. Common Ground which is one of the many relief groups here is restoring the building and it will eventually become a learninging center for ecology related things like permaculture, photoelectric development, solar heat and power and things like that."... so there are many options available,,,,, not that us farms dont need the help as well cuz we do however,,,,, we too have shooed people on down south when we knew that it was better suited to them than here with us.... (not for inability much of the time,,, but time of year n lack of stuff here or seeing their personality n how they can interact with folks)..... luv n lite
how can you say he would have been miserable and not be able to help. how do you know we were just "sittin around feeding n entertaining"? how do you know the residents are clueless or downhearted. HAVE YOU BEEN THERE? not if you passing on second hand info. what really tells me you're clueless is that you're comparing common ground to a rainbow effort. i take it you haven't hung out with the little anarchist kids. i have worked with both groups, and won't get into the stupidity of some of the things common ground folks do. i spent 3 months in a mudhole, feeding these "downhearted" folks. we weren't handing out snack packs and box sandwiches. we cooked 3 meals a day, 7 days a week, upwards and beyond to the tune of 1,000 meals, everyday and didn't miss a day. that's just the kitchen part, maybe if you read a few posts around here on the rainbow kitchens, you might know what has happened, what is still happening and what plans we have in the future. thanks for being so negative and downgrading to all my 100's of brother's and sister's who busted their ass to do what the guvment couldn't, thanks for saying these disaster victims are downhearted and clueless. you've done this forum a favor by allowing them the opportunity to see your truly negative colors and what kind of person you really are. if you'd have said these things around a New Waveland Cafe A-camper, they probably would have thumped you by now.
no bro all i was sayin is that when it first went down not all were cut out to be there,,, not all are able to handle emergency response type situations, nothing more,,,,,, if you took it as me putting ppl down you my friend are very wrong,,, but alas,,, you made an opinion by what i typed and assumed that i was damning folks,,,,
astro get yer briefs outta yer butt.. a lot of the posts on the kitchens WE PUT THERE! we are in touch with people down there now,and if ya go back thru the fuckin sticky youll see that.. oh i assume ya didnt know dilligaf was my old lady or ya wouldnt have made such a smart ass comment to her.. aint no fuckin A camper we know thumpin dilli cause they all know shes got the best food in the woods,an she cooks with meat! yeah come on over to a serf A camp an talk shit about dilli..youll be the one gettin yer punk ass thumped!! weve been in touch with folks in waveland since day one.. of course things have changed there in the last,,what 6 months? but shes right in the begining (wich is what she was refering to )it wasnt what it is now,, the folks there didnt need someone there who couldnt cope with the situation!an many volunteers couldnt! have we been there? no ,but i could give ya a list of brothers an sisters we know personally who have been there,, several who were in the first wave of the cafe.. somethin if im not mistaken even you cant say.. once again get yer high holy briefs out yer ass an take a chill pill. A camp thumpin?? yeah,, thats mighty big typin there..
my apologies if i offended anyone. there were a few that couldn't handle being in a situation like that. just getting tired of people throwing out stupid comments on what we accomplished and are still accomplishing, like it is and still is a waste of time, many acting like they know exactly what it's all about. sorry, i'm always quick to jump to the defense of my family and other folks. i'm not normally one to concern myself with the things folks throw at me personally, but when it comes to my family, they'd be better off sandpapering a wildcat's ass in a phone booth. my sincerest apologies to you dilligaf, i must have misread something in your post in someway, shape or form. i made it into waveland right after Rita tore up the west side of LA. went to help for a day or two and ended up leaving after it was all cleaned up, went to help get emergency communities rolling, was actually one of the folks who scouted the areas offered by st bernard parish to see what kind of mess we wre getting into and if it was actually usable. then went and spent a few weeks with momma kaboom, ron and a few others to attempt to get Camp Second Helping off the ground, i'm the one that came up with the name in our first circle there. i'd still be there if it weren't for health problems, but as soon as i get this damn Katrina cough knocked out i'll be back. second helping didn't take off as well due to lack of publicity and america's short attention span, but it's getting there slowly but surely. so yes i can say i know alot of them personally, seems we all family, and i'm the distant cousin from the swampland of LA. lovin you
oh i fiercely defend family as well and all that they have done and do,,,,, We pull together when needed and thats a fact,,,, it works and few other " groups" of any sort can pull that off..... all imeant by saying what i said was that ther are more opportunities out there for folks to go and help out now than there were 5 months ago..... 5 months ago the only options really were to go n feed people, console pepole n take control of what govt could not,,,,, many people just are not cut out for that type of role,,,, they cant figgerout how to feed 1400 ppl,,, they cant say things are ok n explain why they are ok,,,, they cant give what is needed,,,, now that basics are covered new opps are opening for folks,,,, twas all i meant, nothing more nothing less .. those that perhaps knew they could serve no purpose then possibly could now,,,,, i think there is alot less pressure in alot of ways,,,, it is no longer the "emergency survival test " it was,,,, now it is helpin rebuild,,,, teaching ,,,, etc etc,,,,,, .. eh we all defend our family when we feel it is called for,,, cant damn you for that either,,,,i do the same,,,,, have done the same,,,, n with Southern US... A camps Capital A for that matter,,,,, luv n lite
many of the folks i worked with have started all kinds of community projects in south MS. south LA seems to be going right back to the stupidity where it was before, been here all my life, so i saw that coming, don't ever see that changing either, but i'm trying my best, lol(really hard when you know of only 2 rainbows in the state and you're one of them). south MS has seen some serious changes, almost everyone you meet is full of peace, love and happiness, even though alot of them are still sleeping in a tent on their front lawn. words really can't describe it, much less do it justice.
didn't mean to start a war over this... turns out i'm headed to waveland anyway.... to clarify why i opted not to go at first: it was just the short notice of it.. thanks for the input though lovin you, family.
