if you have one, they will try and fuck you. heres the story condensed... my cell went missing, i thought it was in my girlfriends messy room. a day later the provider called my mom saying someone called in saying their friend had a stolen phone which the provider traced back to me. they told my mom it was stolen and she could have it suspended. she wanted me to find out who took it so she said dont suspend it yet. well...they failed to mention to her that she could still see all the numbers calling and called while it was suspended(its gay as shit, the theif cant get incoming calls, but can make outgoing calls and download shit.) well about 3 days later i was able to find out who took it so i called up my provider and told them to suspend it. i just got my bill in and guess what? they are charging me 100+ dollars for ringtones and wallpapers, those bitches. thats gonna come out of my pocket to pay my parents back. i called em up and asked them about it and they said none of the orders could be taken off because i didnt have the phone suspended(the orders were placed in those 3 days) (even though my mom had told the lady fromt he service who called "keep it on but DO NOT let them buy anything on it") those fuckers piss me off so bad. now i'm having to go through this whole shit with the cops, the phone insurance people, and the provider service and all i want is to get a new phone... . i went against my personal beliefs ont his one though...the guy who took it...i snitched him out pretty bad:X so a word about cell phones. always keep an eye on yours. id hate for anyone to have to go through the shit im dealing with right now.
take him to small claims court, depending on the state you're in its fairly cheap, and you could get all the money from the motherfucker who took your phone.... not only that, but its healthy for a young guy to get a good grasp on the legal system.
It's your ma's fault for not having the phone suspended. What was you finding out who took it while he ran your bill up going to do? The service provider even offered....another way of hinting that's the thing to do....suspension of the phone. Think about it....()
You have to report these stolen within minutes of not being able to find it. IF you find it, service can be restored at no problems. But, if you wait, the asshole who took your phone can be racking up the bills for you. They won't do a "partial suspend" like "don't let them buy anything" like your mom asked. It is either leave the phone on (BAD idea) or suspend service and deal with it when it is found. My dh lost his phone once. I called the number and some nice Hispanic man, who didn't speak English answered. Bear talked to him and went and picked up the phone. It was lucky that the dude was honest.
one thing the service provider left out. almost all cell phones have a GPS tracking chip, some even have television signal capability now to track the phone where GPS doesn't work well. even without both though the service provider can call the phone and track it directly to it's location, even if they don't answer by using triangulation. they knew where your phone was when they called your mom to say it was stolen. on another note> all kinds of people have run out and gotten cell phones, what they don't know is it's tracking device! they know where the phone is at all times even if it is off! GPS can track you almost anywhere, but has difficulty in areas with large buildings. television waves can't cover big open spaces, but work great in cluttered areas, like between and inside high-rises in a large city. by incorporating the 2 technologies your phone can be found anywhere in the world in seconds. also all those text messages, pics, and other nifty things you send back in forth go into a database. got a friend that works for a big service provider in their customer service department. she didn't know this, but found out when she pulled up her own account, that all the naughty pics she took and sent with her camera phone were on file, so were all the text messages she had sent. makes you wonder what else they are keeping record of?
No, only cell phones which use satellites do.Most American cell phones do NOT contain GPS capabilties. My dh works for an Electronics company which makes cells. Most do not have GPS. In the USA, there are enough towers that using satellites is not neccesary. In remote areas of the world, like deserts ect, the GPS, satellite phones are used.
the gps is not the usable kind. their are trackable chips in most communications devices and vehicles. even without gps, television technology, etc, they can still triangulate a signal when a call is made to and from the phone. i'll give your friend the benefit of the doubt as to whether or not they are in US phones. i also read the information on some electronics site somewhere about future installation of television signals sometimes back, just can't find the damn link, not that it matters, what could we do about it anyway, lol
First off they are right, your mom needs a boot in the ass or you do for that matter for going for it. And to clear up some of the mis info here...... Have you ever set your cell near a speaker? Try it or near your tv.....at times you will hear from your speaker from or which ever device you place it by the ele. siginal(click, click, ect) being sent to your cell as to its status. As to its location if needed. You will also hear this seconds before it rings. The cell phones in the usa are very easy to locate within a small area by triangulation through several towers, very much like in the old days when they would determine a position of a plane in the sky by radio strenght to several towers. This system has recently been improved by the gov for 911 purposes. About two years ago I heard a female was napped and only had her cell....while moving and by trianglation and a brief description of the car she was saved in a mall parking lot by only her cell. This also goes for being tracked, every cell call is logged by the first tower it goes through. ect ect.... Want to be tracked with ease....have a cell phone. Want to ditch the world for a bit.....buy a track phone, use it for a month or so....make the last few calls to travel companys and then your last call to the biggest local airport near you, leave the line open for a few minutes, hang up, burn it......your lost from the system for a while if you wish. Or in the bigger cities you can buy pre paid sim cards from lots of places, but this drawback is the phone your using the card in can be traced back to you or the one you got it from Its easy to clone a phone, your esn and even your sim card info can be coppied easily.
