I'm surprised that no one has posted anything about this book yet. I'm honoured that I get to.

The main character get's drafted into the army to fight an alien meance deep in space. The thing is, the way to travel the vastness of space screws up time greatly. The passengers on the ship don't age but the rest of the universe ages years, even decades or centuries. When you get back, everything's changed and soon the military is the only thing that you know.

The author used his Vietnam experience for the book. Along with the time concept, you see just how violent and sometimes useless a ground war can be.

An incredible read. I highly recommend it.
