    Hi
My dreads are at about 5 1/2 months and I wash about 2x a week. I really like to keep them maintained but I need a bigger mirror and a lot of patience.
    My question is regarding smells.
My dreads don't stink, but my boyfriend says they smell like "a carpet" whatever that means. He says "it's not a BAD smell..."

Is there anything that can freshen them up?
What about water mixed with peppermint oil?
Any suggestions? (Please keep suggestions vegan)
    thanks!
P.S. I love Knottyoby dread gel but I noticed it makes my hair too soft. my ends are falling straight!

I hear a lot 'bout tea tree oil (never used it myself), I just use a regular baby shampoo which smells very nice :)

I don't have dreads, so...you may not want to listen to me- but what about Dr. Bronner's soap? They come in a lot of smells and definiatley won't make your ends "smooth"- its pretty rough soup. I used it on my head when I was sort of dreading it a year ago (I combed them out...) and it worked pretty well and left a good smell behind.

I use a combo of Dr Bronners and dread soap. I was thinking of something I could spray onteh dreads between washings. I don't know if water and peppermint oil spray would be a good choice or not.
I can't deal with tea tree. that smell makes me nauseaous.

dr bronners... it's wonderful soap, comes in different scents (if you hate tea tree I recomend peppermint) and the best thing about it is that it's nice and thin so it really gets in there!

I use Bronners for washing. I was wondering about a homemade spray to put on between washings.
