Mormons?- once they came to our school... people from the church of mormons, they wore black suits, had big posters at the Activities Center that we have at our college, They stopped me and started talking about if I know anything about mormons and their founder... some guy from the 1800s
So I said, "okay" and then invited me to a hall where there were posters and food, So some guy started talking about how God wants you to be happy so follow mormonism, but I had a very simple question, the part of God wanting me happy was very good, but why do they think that I am not following God? So I asked them, then they said something about how the guy was a prophet , which didn't really do much for me, but i had some cookies and some brownies and took some to the next class.

my parents are mormons, so i grew up a mormon. I stopped going to church about a year ago, (im 18 now). I had a hard time believing that there is only one path to God, and that certain ceremonies performed here on earth are required to achieve this. Since, i have learned a little about different religions, like Buddhism and Hinduism. What i learned is that if you strip away all the traditions and cultural differences, you can see that it truly is the same God at the core of all reigions, they just hold different perceptions of Him, He is universal, not reserved for a select few. I believe that anyone who seeks God with a sincere heart, can find their own path to Him, regardless of what religions they belong to.

though mormonism can teach many morals and truths, it is not the one and only path.

Well hello spirit desire. I as well grew up in the LDS church (not to be confused with LSD). I personally have qualms with any organized religions but some people thrive off of what it has for them. I have seen all sorts of faith have powerful impacts on people (mormonism/christianity included). It appears to work for my parents who are very happy and giving people, but not me. Bet I could answer a ton of questions people have about the mormon faith though. I was a hard core church goer til I was about 18. It is a very straight edge way of living though.

Whatever your religion or spiritual path, if it claims that it is the "only way" and all other ways lead to hell, a bad rebirth, all kinds of horrible things... it has corrupted the purity of the ineffable mystical experience that unites us all, and unites all religion...

Religion is just a finger pointing at the moon, mormon and all the rest.

Let's look at the moon which is the one consciousness in all things beyond spacetime and part of spacetime and not get hung up on the finger.

For quantum mechanics and mysticism show through personal experience and scineitific fact, the supreme truth of oneness, of the one consciousness without seperation, that we can call God. From this perspective you can look at all the religions and see the ways in which they point towards this truth.

    well...

    early 1800's...
    upstate NY...
a seeker youth, so concerned about the various christian denominations & their squabblings...
widespread american (& european) egyptomania resultant from post-napoleonic plundering of the nile, & popular "tours" of strange egyptian artifacts all a'covered with them ummmmmmm undecipherable hieroglyphs......
(& no rosetta stone deciphered --- yet)...
& meetings with the angelic messenger moroni in the NY woods...
a hill in the woods with secret book buried within, all a'covered with them undecipherable hieroglyphs...
& a pair of angelic spectacles on temporary loan from moroni to young joseph smith, alllowing him to read/translate the (unsealed portion) of the apparently ancient hieroglyphic manuscripts, with several local witnesses ouside of his little reading room/closet all a'listenin'...
and the tales of lost tribes & messianic visitations in ancient north america (sorta very like in that popular novel of the era, hmmm)...
    & a brand-new dispensation of grace, & a re-establishnent of the ancient priesthoods & old-testament marriage arrangements...
soon enough out from NY, & kirtland ohio, & nauvoo illinois (where smith & a couple lieutenants were lynched by some good & upset local christians), & missouri, & then most of 'em (led by brigham young) off to utah territory for more adventures...
polygamy statute eventually rescinded by LDS elder hotline to heaven just in time for utah's statehood...

    and here we are, mebbe...

a semi-close synopsis to something resembling reality... ymmv...

im 16 and GROWIGN up morman, although i dont know if theres something else i detest more. although they are all about being a good person, i feel like they take it too far. haveing such high standards makes you look down on just about everyone. basically, when im 18, im outta this.

by the way, mormans arent polygamist anymore. beleive me, im nto trying to defend. the 'mormans' that do this today are actually in cults in utah that branched from mormanism a while back. but yea, crazy.

that depends on your point of view. those "cults" in Utah would claim they are the true church of latter day saints, and you other Mormons are a spin off or corruption of their True church.

LDS is frightening to me. Not the people, most of them are the nicest, most giving people I've ever known in my life. My sister has joined the LDS church since marrying a member. But the teachings of their church scare me. The more I learn about it, the more frightening I find it to be. And the whole baptising dead people and others without their consent, and the family tree thing, that is really really frightening, on so many levels.

Well what I do like a about the Church of Latter Day Saints is their emphasis on kindness and family unity, two values that are so often neglected yet so direly needed in today's society. Some of their views I find a little strange, I even find material offensive to certain ethnicities (sp.), but compared to many Christians at my school that are arrogant and use their religion to hold themselves in higher esteem, I find the Mormons I know to be funny and kind with a "to each man his own attitude".

People are people despite what they label their beliefs as. The mormons I personally know are good human beings.

Like I said, I've grown up in a Mormon family, but am not mormon anymore. My dad is a little strict about it, in a must follow the rules by the book no matter what kind of way. I recently decided to move out with my boyfriend. The problem: not married. And so, my dad flipped out, is really hurt by it and feels that it is a personal failure yet again (out of six kids, only two remain in the church). He is just fixated on the fact that it is immoral and has a hard time understanding that i have different values that arent morally wrong to me. Basically, I have found that this religion has made him sort of closed minded in that respect, (though it could just be his personality).
