I heard Maroon 5 played there, at Bonnaroo. That kinda defeats the whole purpose of "hippie jam bands". They are a pop sellout band, playing at Bonnaroo. I may be wrong tho, Im not sure if they played there or not.
You are correct, but when you have 79 hippie like bands you just start to run out of options. Also with six stages it was not like they were your only option.
damn, that sounds like fun. Is there going to be another one? and if yes is the answer, whens it gonna be? and where....and any other questions that deal with it..... i seen pictures of it before, i wanna go. please tell me its during the summer
Bonnaroo is a wonderful event that started in 2002. I attended 02 and 04. It is held during the 2nd or 3rd week of june, and it'll start on a thursday. I would recommend leaving on wednesday though, because 12 hours of traffic can get annoying in the extreme heat of Manchester, Tennesse. I don't now if you've ever been to an event like this but if you haven't get ready for pure culture shock. I would recommend getting the DVD from 2002. This will give you an idea of what the vibe is. It should be happening for the next at least 4 years i believe. You might also want to check out inforoo (http://bonnaroo.proboards21.com/index.cgi#general). This is a similar message board, but no one will be posting much till next one rolls around. Also check out www.bonnaroo.com. Iwant to stress to you if you have never been to a festival, BE CAREFUL AND KNOW YOUR LIMITS. This year there was a death form heroin overdose. I would recommend a smaller festival to get you a idea though. Here a few links www.hookahville.com www.hippyhillhoodang.com and here is a big list of them http://www.jambase.com/festivals/index.asp?regionID=4
thanks man . id actually be leaving on that sunday, im pretty far away and would be able to beat all the trafiic. but, it looks like Im going. next summer Im going on a roadtrip, its alrite with my parents, Im just not comin' back...lol have I been to a festival? hmm....no, not yet. But I plan on going to the Grateful Garcia Gathering, on the 1st. its about 15 miles from where I live, and Ive been invited by tim sundog to go backstage. it costs $60 tho, and im pretty broke. check out www.gratefulgarciagathering.com to learn more..... and thanks for the links, ill be sure to check em out.
Yeah i checked that one out, but it's good old Hookahville for me. Don't now if you've heard of them but check em out. Maybe I'll catch you at BROO '05 next year. We've finally wised up and are taking my aunt's motorhome. Like the string cheese song goes "...with a cabnet full of mushrooms and a cooler full of beer"
how dare you ! what would you know about me ?? just because you didnt have the guts to grab life by the balls doesnt mean you have to be a condesending fool to anyone who is a little bit younger than yourself. whats so wrong about crime ? its just oposition of laws, and if there where no laws against it there wouldnt be a crime either. of course, some laws come naturally to humans, because of a little thing called empathy. in that way, certain maniacs wouldnt be alowed to run about killing, robbing or raping, mob justice would take care of it. besides, i am no peace love hippie, i think fighting is a part of nature. but bombing the planet away realy isnt a smart thing to do, and coming up with excuses to attack virtually defenseless nations just to further your own twisted schemings is no good either.
oh hey that sounds awesome. Ill most likely be sleeping in whatever vehicle I have, or maybe Ill bring a tent. But Im gonna try and go no matter what. and green_lion, calm down man. we are young. we dont know what the real world is like. whyd you bring war up? whend that come into this thread?
oh, well, he babled something about some festival being about peace and love... doesnt make much sense i guess, but i i rarely do anyways oh, and phanphavorite, i am not saying that people should stop working and become irresponsible jerks... well, i probably am one, but we need them to, right ? i am just tired of people thinking they are dead smart because they can buy alcohol and watch porn legaly. in most countries anyways. after puberty is over its peak there is no difference in maturity between a 16 year old who lives away from home and a 20 year old who does the same. maturity has little to do with age, but the tendency is for older people to have seen more of life and therefore be more mature. if a 16 year old has seen just as much shit then there realy is no difference. therefore, you have no right to claim a persons statement to be wrong because of his age.
But the movement is hardly fading. If anything, it's become more of a counterculture stable. In my conservative catholic high school, I know of more neo hippies than goths. Plus there is the political climate, people with family and friends and lovers who are out in Iraq. Even if Bush leaves, Kerry isn't pulling us out of there. As long as we are stuck in this war, there will be a movement.
There was a war in the original movement, remember Vietnam? I would think that the war would be more fuel for another movement/revolution...
I am pro environment, I like good music, i love sports, i love the grateful dead, i love slayer, i wear whatever is cheap and comfortable. I get so sick of people defining people by what they wear/listen to. Who gives a fuck. If someone wants to wear abercrombie and fitch shit so be it. Im also a mainstreamer going to get my engineering degree in december. I smoke pot occasionally. I drink. Could someone please attach a label on me?
sure. you must be one of them...uh... badass kids! yeah, that'll do it. Okay, I am not that good at coming up with labels, ask somebody else. I'm sorry I couldn't perfrom...
music, sports, grateful dead, and slayer loving, comfortable clothes wearing, pothead engineer? that'll do. I live in canada and I doubt Ill be able to make it to bonaroo '05 unless a miracle happens. i dont have any wheels, and I cant see my mom wanting to go there, although she's kinda a hippie.
well, its basically nothing compared to the sixties, but who knows ? something might stir, and the tidal wave might come again
green lion, I was not trying to say I'm smarter then you in anyway. There is a good chance that I'm not, but don't take this personal. I believe i said that I was not trying to attack anyone. Your ideas could woork in theory, but then again communism works in theory. I was just trying to give you a point of view of someone who has been in this "movement" for a while. Second, this thing about being a "hippie" and being labeled is BS. People put labels on people. You just have to learn to ignore or except them. I'm called a hippie by a lot of people, but I don't really think that I am one. I happen to like that type of music, wear tydye once an awhile, and wear my hair longer but I also am a fan of things that "hippies" don't like. Rage Againsdt the Machine is one of my favorite bands. Matter of fact I 'm a huge fan of grunge. People are going to label you as all sorts of things, so just label yourself. I'm a Phan.
I'm a groupie! one day I'll be a rock star! Then I'll have groupies! for now I am a dreamer... OoOoOoOoO... I'm really enjoying this labeling meself thing, thanks for the idea it is loads of fun. I could go on forever!
After 1973 the hippie era died. You can tell it in the music. That's why I think it's funny that punk started in the late 70's....
