Harison Ford once said "peace isn't just the absence of conflict, it's also the preasance of justice", I belive this to be true, but do we take any action to obtain real peace, Sadam Hussain had to be stopped, but how do you go about it?
Well, he was brought to power by a US backed coup, then for many years supported by western powers, in return for access to Iraqi oil. If our govts didn't support 3rd dictatorships, there would be less of them. What do you think?
i think the number would be much the same the chinese or someone else would support them , and really I dont think outsiders are the main influence rather the people in the countrys themselves .
As far as invading Iraq is concerned, this has been shown to be against international law and the constitution of the UN. No country has the right to invade another country unless they are directly threatened, which was blatantly not the case with Iraq. Political pressure may be excerted, and perhaps sanctions, but waging war against another country just because you don't like their leader is inexcusable.
what about hitler would it have been morally wrong to attack hitler if he was just gassing jews and wasnt at tht time a immediate threat to you . international law doesnt mean that much to me , and I have very little respect for the un . I protested against the war never thought saddam was a threat, but if the war had killed less people than saddam and his sons would have killed and put iraq in a better situation , I would have agreed with picking a fight with him
Hitler was not installed by a US backed coup. Given the that the US helped Hussain into power, and then supported him, regardless of how he treated his people, until he no longer towed the line, I don't think they are the best people to oversee his replacement. They should be paying reparations to iraq for all they've done to them, not invading. Interestingly the 1st person to gas the Marsh Arabs was winston churchil when he was incharge of the RAF in mesapotamia.
