Is Love a religious belief?

I do know Jiddu Krishnamurti, but the main flow of Buddhist thought on the subject is that love is only one of many aspects of it and only certain types of love (and specifically not the ordinary types of love that people usually think of)


About the original starting question of this thread. Usually artists, poets, lovers, etc are the ones who usually specialize in exploring the concept of love not religions.

 

Once every year occam watches a movie that has him crying like a baby.
A love story of course.
And a story that would sit well with the teachings of one we speak
so often of. [not sophisticated, a comedy in some parts, that is the charm]
Each of us with a heart has a story that can free our emotions.
Occam will never tell any the name of the movie.

It may not be 'truth'... but if it is not.. it should be..
It casts aside all occams nitpicking doubt in it's naive power.
The greatest performance by a certain male actor in his career.
And great work from the female lead but for one other movie
she was in. In Occams opinion the best 'will' movie ever filmed.

i'm not sure there's any one movie i can even deal with watching every year, but there are a small number of movies and a much larger number of stories in print that elicit in me tears of joy.

the phrase "all you need is love" certainly implies an absolute faith in something called love, often not too finely delineated and thus left up to the beholder to fill in the blank spots or simply accept their existence as the beholder sees fit.

faith is often equated with belief and vicity versity, so in that sense, to the extent that the 'all you need is love" honestly and sincerely mean what they say, then yes, to and for them, love becomes indeed a belief.

i've also heard the "god is love" bit from people i'm not to sure ever think very much about anything the say.

as beliefs go, love has at least as much going for it as many, and a good bit more then quite a few.

myself, i get real antsy if i'm too long away from creating or exploring, so i look upon "all you need is love", the "ALL you need" part anyway as being a modest exageration.

The 2 together 'emotion/reason' are what we are.

Without reason we COULD do nothing.

My experience of love is described well by the beatles "Limitless undying love taht shines around me like a million suns"

Man it is beautiful and bright out, everything loves me as lets my ego burn up in acceptance of that love, dissolving into the oneness.

 

this is a good thing to do. i can also "immagine" and feel the spiritness "within you without you". the all inclusive 'you' that includes all sentient biengs also including you, occam, and myself.

everything loving you won't stop the diversity of reality from occasionaly biting your finger or stubbing your toe. it won't prevent them from hurting like hell when it does.

better perhapse to accept a less personal not intending toward you any particular harm, then to immagine that diversity to have turned against you when this happens.

as it does "to the high and low alike", upon whome "the rain falls", both of tests, AND of blessings.

It is often when you lack something that you realized how important it is (was).
I don't think love is a belief, because some people know, came to realize, that "all they need is love".

 

not needing air, water, food, shelter or intillectual gratification would certainly be fortunate, were human society to destroy this worlds ability to continue to provide them (which it HAS the potential capability of doing, rather easily these days, even by accident, precisely as we appear to be in the proccess of). still, i for one, would prefer not to put this proposition to the test.
