I have been living in NYC for five years now. it's a great city like everbody says. when I go other places in states I really miss new york but when I am in new york I just want to get out .you know all that crowd, car alarms, mean people, dirty air... makes me stress I think its time for me to move out of NYC
I wouldn't mind living there for a few years (which hopefully I will if I get into NYU.. doubtful) but I don't think I'd want to live there permanently. Going to school there would be cool because then I wouldn't have to worry about dealing with apartment payments and having to fight crowds to get across town for work and blah blah blah because I'd be all contained on the campus, but then could do whatever in the city whenever I wanted. I went last spring with my school band and hung out with some hippies making flower arrangements on the Strawberry Fields memorial thing. It was fun. ^_^
i've had plans on visiting nyc for a couple of years now, but i haven't really put thought into action yet. i've got a friend from vancouver living there right now and he loves it; i'd consider a move for a year. peace, sophia
Great place to visit. Wouldn't wanna live there. Maybe ya should try living a short (and cheap) train trip away...like in poukipsee or new haven or sumthin so you can get there quick when ya start to get bored.
I love NYC and can't imagine a better place to live. Housing is often my biggest difficulty, and it is, as an acquaintance of mine said when asked why he wouldn't come visit, a police state. I hardly ever use it because biking is better and cheaper but we have the best subway/public transportation system in the country if not the world.
i love NYC..i went to school there for 3 years and i absolutely loved the time there. Its nice being able to hop on the subway and going anywhere. Central park is just awesome..broadway..time square..the met..yeah, you just cant beat that... with that said, i dont think i could live there long term(unless i was a millionaire). It is too expensive to afford something really nice and i like trees and grass too much.
I love NYC! It's so fun and exciting! There's so much life and diversity! I go there whenever I get the chance ^.^
I went to NYC for the first time this past weekend, I have to say I didn't really enjoy it. There were nice old buildings, which were kind of neat.. but it was too busy, too crowded.. too.. smoggy.
So, I am truly blessed, I get to go to NYC in a couple months with my sweet Mama! Maybe someone here can help me with info on checking out some sights. We are only going to be there for a weekend, I want to see the Statue of Liberty, but my Mama wants to see some kinda show, and she is a shopper too! We will be staying on Eighth Avenue and wont have a car, so I was hoping for some kinda company that offers tours whaddy'all think? anybody help a sista out? lovin' life Jen
If you go see a show, I would definatly recommend Wicked. It's really awesome, and I'm not saying that because I'm obsessed with it (>.>) but because it really is an amazing showcase of talent. With a little talent you could probably just take the subway and walk most places. I don't really have much experience there though because when I went, I was on a band trip so we hired tour guides for our buses.
Ramblin'rose, it's good that you wont have a car. Driving in the city is hell!! If the subways are too difficult to figure out, try walking. If you get lost most people can help you with directions. It's mostly numbers, so it's all pretty easy. Depending on what part of the city you're in, you may not want to pull out the map. People may take advantage of tourists. If you wear a skirt that's above the knees you should expect to be sexually harassed in some way. They usually don't touch, but they'll say plenty of things. Also, don't walk around after midnight if you're not with a big group of people. If I were you I'd see the Statue of Liberty in the early afternoon and see a show in the evening, so you can get both done in one day and have plenty of time to do more. If you want to get in on some of the city life and find some cool stores, check out the village near where St. Marks is. Have fun!!
I have always wanted to go and am getting my chance in late May/early June! I cant wait! Where can a guy go to have a good time? And I dont mean strip clubs or stuff like that. What can you do in NYC you cant do anywhere else?
So... who wants to chill in NYC with me? Maybe toke up in a park somewhere and buy pretty things from thrift shops?
NYC is great. I just got back from visiting my sister in Jersey. Living in almost any small town in this country is sheer hell if you don't conform to all of the people around you. The selection of books, movies, culture and food and just about everything else is second to none. And I haven't even mentioned the eye candy. However, finding a good job and a decent place to live that is close to that great public transportation (I don't drive...another reason small town America is hell) is not easy. Half of me wants to move to New York yesterday and the other half is worried.
