definately "the closing of winterland" the transition from "scarlet" into "fire on the mountain" is better than all the other live versions of that jam that I've heard. the "not fade away", "dark star", and "St. Stephen" are some of the best I've ever heard. But all the jams in this show are fucking tight as hell anyway. Plus you got some great interviews like with Ken Kesey, and you have the openers: The fucking Blues Brothers! and Dan Ackroyd introducing the band! as some great folks ride down to the stage in a giant lit joint! and the fucking sound on this DVD is perfect. The menu music and the menu itself is fucking awesome! all around great DVD
closing of winterland for sure. i agree with jezmund scarlet> fire on that video has got to be one of the best versions ever. Jerry jams the shit out of fire, it blows me away everytime.
i really like the "anthem to beauty" DVD...it has great footage from the early years and other great studio and live moments....great shit.
Dude, Not Fade Away from closing of winterland > * Especially when that guy (i think he's from new riders?) comes out and starts playing like half way through the jam, and I forget if it's in that song but man bobby when playing slide is hitting a note like right next to where the strings start on the body, it's sick. Might be I need a miracle that that is on... my mind is hazy.
the 'grateful dead movie' is also very sick....i love the "morning dew" at the end, it is fucking beautiful! and there are some great interviews...i lvoe the one with jerry when he's talking about how he threw Phil down a flight of stairs because he was so pissed about the show being bad...but then like two months later he liked them so much, they put them on in there next album, and he learned to keep his mouth shut, just because the music wasn't getting him off that night....
The Grateful Dead Movie in part because of the nitrious hooka with like 20 heads arround it. That was fuckin awsome and hillarious.
"Dead Ahead" is awesome! the first set is introduced by Al Franken and I don't remember his partners name, but they open it up by saying "we're gonna do an hour of stand up before the Dead come out." the crowd starts booing and yelling....and Al Franken follows it up with "now, now...if you don't quite down, we'll leave and the Dead will come out...so..." and he is cut off by the crowd going insane! and they intoduce the band and they play an amazing acoustic set opener.....its has a wonderful "to lay me down" and Phil drops a wonderful Phil bomb that is breath taking and i've never heard him to do it since. it was one of those moments. the whole show kicks alot of ass....
yeah, its pretty obvious when they have a huge blue helium-style tank and have like 20 tubes comming off it and a room full of people gettin really fucked up.
o ok just making sure, I always forget parts of movies even when I've seen them a gazillion times. You even said nitrous hookah, but all I read was hookah cause I am retarded.
downhill from here so far ticket to new years i love the visual effects they use in alot of the movies
haven't watched that zep dvd, my friend's got it though i should give it a watch... yea the visual effects are fucked up, some of them seem really low tech, but when tripping it does the trick.
