A friend of mine who has been treated with a lot of antidepressants and recently been committed for suicidal tendencies is thinking of killing herself again. My mentor suggested that an entactogen might restore her seratonin, but didn't really elaborate. Is there any sort of drug that would help her. I'd prefer it to be natural, due to the fact that this girl probably won't trust synthetic chemicals. Thanks.
it serotonin, and the best way to cure a depression is without drugs, introspection, she needs some time alone, maybe some meditation, to find out deep inside what's wrong and change it. trust me, i know
best natural sollution would be 5-htp they dont sell it at pharmicies here in australia. only behind the counter of health food stores. also, you could try st. Johns wort. this is a herb, worked quite well for me, and feels even more natural than 5-htp. although, better brand actually makes alot of difference for some reason, the cheapo ones dont work near as well. (here Blackmores is the best) (you might whant to try doubleing or trippling (quadrippling) dosages as it makes you feel even better, but no nasty chemical side effects) for bad depression, take both of these together in high amounts. it feels sooo much better than those damn chemicals. (ssri's and what not)
ive not found it at healthfood stores, i asked a pharmacist and they said theyre not allowed to sell it, so i assumed health food places arent either. but if youve seen it, tell me the brand name please!! unless its like melatonin.. you can buy that at health places but then you read the bottle and it says 'homeopathic dose' - 3mg.. diluted 1000000 times...
i did a quick search... (5HTP) 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan Plus - 30 Capsules Dr Veras Formulations THIS PRODUCT CAN ONLY BE SOLD TO PEOPLE LIVING IN QUEENSLAND. 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan Plus - 30 Capsules this is the exact one i bought. i live in brisbane queensland costs like $49 though, sure you could get some shipped... maybe.. before they sold it to me, they had to go through a series of questions with me, and ask why i was taking it. hmm.
there is another more effective one but it was outlawed because of impurities that caused a bad disorder... I forget the name it is L-@%#% sumpthing. Also changing diet may help, there is a lot of these chemicals in Eggs and many other foods. Also tell her to do something productive when she gets down, running always works well for me... or going to a park, or just getting out there. Good luck man, I used to be in that place, peace.
L-Tryptophan was the other. 5HTP is 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan. It was outlawed in the 90s because one batch had some impurities. Generally, you don't outlaw a chemical because one batch was made wrong, though you could take it off the shelves until the problem is fixed. The real reason for the law (which I think may not be in effect currently) became clear only 4 days after the decision. This was the day that Prozac's launch was announced to the world. Interesting, huh? 5HTP is a precursor to serotonin, and may help. Serotonin itself can never be administered as it doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier, same as some other neurotransmitters.
ofcourse there are a wide range of amino acids that help to provide well being and good health. L-tyrosine glutamine err heaps, though personally dont bother with glutamine. Blackmorse Executive B stress formula, contains herbs, vitamins. can help relax your mind of worries and stress. and helps improve well being. though, exercise can refresh the mind. it makes you feel good mentally, and it phsically strengthens your body.
is it that she hasn't found an anti depressant that works? How many times has she attempted suicide? I'm just wondering if she's borderline - it took the docs a decade to diagnose me, I've been on almost every anti-depressen, anti-psychotic etc under the sun. The only thing I've relly found that works is dialectical (sp?) therapy, which is bascially an advanced cognitave therapy.
