I got this dog named midnight, and she eats her food wierd. she will get a mouthfull of food nuggets from her bowl in the kitchen, bring them out to the dining room where im sitting at the puter, drop them on the floor and then eat them. she only gets three or four pellets at a time, then she goes back to her bowl to get more and do it all over again. so far shes made like 6 or 8 trips back and forth from the kitchen to the dining room just eating her food.

the wierder thing is, there was this dog we used to have, named Ace, he did the exact same thing, only 10 years ago.

anyone else's doggies do stuff like that?

My family has had dogs that did that. We call it a "picnic"...:D

My cat lays in front of her bowl and pulls out food with her paw. I have to sweep up crumbs all the time. One time she opened her mouth to meow at my hubby and a piece of food dropped out of her mouth and went tink, tink, tink on the floor. It was so funny.

yep. every dog we've had, except one, did te exact same thing. dogs are social animals, it's no wonder they wanna eat where the rest of you eat. theonly dog we had that didn't was a rescue dg we had who was abused and neglected for years. he's protect his food bowl intensely. it's was heartbreaking and very cute, too. my mother was the only one that could push him aside when it was full and he wsa hovering over it, barking into it to warn you off. but we could all feed him, naturally.

my dog does that too. The dog I had before didn't though she would only eat if she was by herself (unless it was cheese- boy did she love cheese) but she was beaten as a pup so that prolly had something to do with it

you know, i've noticed people do that too, when they've been abused. people who've been abused tend to go eat in private and develop eating disorders and such. i wonder if there's something to that...

well, think about wolves. the beta males are the last to eat, and have been seen on occaision to sneak food away to eat by themselves because the woles that are higher on the totem pole, so to speak, will attack them for eating before they've been given permission. the beta males will often display the "comedian of crew" behavior, much like fat kids trying to find their place by being accepted for their wit and ability to mock themselves. i wonder if people do the same thing by sneaking their food in, not wanting to be seen eating because people give them a hard time for it. i know that when i was being mocked, harassed and abused i tended to sneak away and stuff food in as fast as i could and behaved in a conciliatory manner, trying to find my place. hmmmm...

My dog never did that with her food, but she would always bring her toys into the living room to chew in front of us. Sometimes to play, bu tsometimes just to lie down and chew on her obnoxiously squeeky toy :)

and kc, i like your analysis

well, you know, once i decided to behave more aggressively and let out my true "head bitch" i stopped being afraid to eat in front of people and ultimately conquered my eating disorder. now i don't even need to be head bitch anymore, evening out. but i tell ya, once that fat's on there, it doesn't go away. sucks.

Here's a thought. The dog wants your company. You don't eat at a table so the dog goes were you spend most of your time. It's her way of making a family table. Try petting your dog or bringing her dinner in the computer room and make yourself something to eat. You'll notice that she'll eat with you. :)
