seems like a wood head might be made of wood and its one good sound would be deep in d' woods . otherwise a vegan has a hemp head , the dirtier the better .

i just cant see how it would last on the road..

im sure it sounds good an all,, but,, durability of a wood head on the road seems,, iffy...

maybe weather extremes would warp it , or crack it . depends on that very particular piece of wood . but then , what's so sturdy about animal hide ? well , on the road at least you could replace that with road-kill parts should you be of a solid-emotional sort of road-dog , by which you could replace a wood head with hide for that matter .

I have one and we don't drag it out if there has been ANY moisture as the tone does change.
It's nice, not a true djembe sound, though.

hah! interesting reading this after watching the emergency broadcast report on the news today...some drum maker from ny city is now suffering from anthrax poisining after working with a toxic untreated animal skin. perhaps vegan drums are a thing of our paranoid future!
not really, just make sure your skins are treated.
at any rate, pertinent time for such a thread.

patent BS. Hemp is inadequate for tightening to the level of a drumhead. THe fibers would rip.

The only vegan drum I've seen is one with a plastic type head. Sorta like the skin of a normal drum kit. Sounded good too.

Remos are vegan. The Remo heads are very, very nice in changing weather conditions.
