Never said I hate you. Just saying, it came as a shock to see you say that. I always thought you liked my hair. But, whatever, if you don't like them, that's fine. They're my pride and joy.

Have to say, that I do like your old dreads alot, and you should've kept them. Although, I respect what you're doing here, too.

I have always said... if god doesnt want me to have dread locks... my hair wouldnt need brushing. Your hair dreads naturally on its own if you dont brush it... brushing ruins your hair... you can keep dreadlocks very clean if you know what your doing... i like to wash with teatree oil shampoo then i wring out all the excess water keep them under a towel for about 20 mins and then sit in front of a fan or use a hair dryer that has a cool setting to get out the rest of the water so they dont smell like mildew... and when i get dandruff... in the winter mostly i dilute straight up teatree oil in water and massage my scalp... it works well and my head doesnt stink and they dont look dirty or gross. if people think dreadlocks are nasty its because they either know or have seen people with dirty dreads or because they are simply ignorant. I grew up in a family of dreadies and beleive me... especially in ct if a white child went to school with dreadlocks that look unsanitairy the dept of children and families would have been called on my mother and i would have grown up in a foster home.... not the case here. if someones dreads are nasty it reflects on their own personal hygene.

My opinion also is that I find dreadlocks dirty looking. There is nothing wrong with putting styling cream/gel in your hair. Style makes you look cleaner, smarter and healthier.

That's a pretty biased, ignorant opinion. But, you are entitled to it, so whatever. I've known some dread heads, that are WORLDS smarter than some "straight haired" people I've known. Dreaded people are enlightened people.

Personally, I find when people have their hair LOADED with gel and hairspray, that that is gross and dirty. Hairspray smells like shit, not to mention it's bad on the environment, and gel is sticky and goopy and gross. Fuck, and WE'RE dirty? Right.

I do have to say though, DeadieHeatherBear, that I don't agree with "if god doesn't want me to have dreadlocks, my hair wouldn't need brushing" comment. Besides the religious referencing, I don't agree that people are SUPPOSED to have dreadlocks, per se. If you didn't brush your hair, it doesn't dread, it clumps and matts. Which, if you want that look, fine, go for it. I tend to prefer the actual locks, even though I have quite a few huge congos forming that I'm quite proud of.

I know I won't keep my dreads forever. I love them, they are a part of me, they are my journey, but every journey must come to an end, one day. Besides that, I do want more than just one hairstyle for the rest of my life.

this maybe true.. dreads do take alot of work... i helped mine along rolling them and all.. but i found my hair seperated into seperate knotty masses instead of one big dreadlock i had to roll them to keep them round and not flat... it also matters how your styling your natty do aswell... if you have them all bunched up under a tam or just keep them up in a knotty bunch they will form together as they are defining each individual lock... my son had dread locks when he was 3 and they formed all on their own... little tiny locks that wearnt matted together... and i didnt help them along in anyway .. just kept em clean ... maybe it depends on the hair type.. who knows. what i do know is that my sister doesnt brush her hair and it never knots so maybe she wasnt supposed to have dreadies.. where as my hair knots if i flip my head too quick.. just my opionion either way...you dont have to agree with shit i say... just my own personal thoughts ..

My dreads ARE natural. They're tight, actual LOCKS, they're very clean, and they're the honest and actual result of my leaving them alone and letting nature take it's course("stop brushing it"). In my experience with other people's hair, usually the straighter hair is what "clumps and matts" - with curly hair like mine, the curls and ringlets will naturally define your locks. Honestly, my hair looked dreaded within days of letting it go.

I've had this argument more times than I can count, and I see it as just one more reason to be careful and concious of keeping my dreadies as clean as humanly possible! That way, when I come across an ignorant person who says something or looks at me funny, I can confront them with the true, clean, physical reality of my head - and they usually walk way with a changed mind.

Hmmm, that's awesome. I wasn't aware it would do that. I mean, I never really saw how.

My hair is curly, but not like extremely curly, that it would've formed into locks on it's own. Mine, like alot of people's I think, would've just clumped and matted and turned out gross.

To me, there's nothing "unnatural" about backcombing them into sections, and letting the hair take it from there. That's all I did.

if you haven't got anything nice or intelligent to say then don't bother. Would you go up to someone in the street and say 'I think your hair looks nasty'? No and if you would then you enjoy hurting people's feelings. Nice to see that the hippy love and acceptance of all dwells within you.

I hope you don't pass all this ignorance onto your child.
