I would love to start up the craft of knitting/crocheting one of these days, and Im wandering, what are the differences between knitting and crocheting? And are they that different at all?

    Thanks! :)

Yes, they are quite different. For starters:
    Knitting - 2 knitting needles
    Crochet - 1 crochet hook
    And they look different.

I'd start with crochet - it's easier and faster.

Crocheting is simpler and easier and more portable.

I say crochet too. It is easy to get discourages knitting because it is harder to get the hang of and it goes slower. For me at least.

I learned the chain stitch when I first started the other day, and today I was joining it and trying to fill in a circle, hehe. Thanks for the site!

I really would love to pursue this as a craft.

Crochet items come out a bit thicker... you use up more yarn in a crochet pattern than knit... I also think (just opinion) that knit just looks nicer than crochet.

I don't know if crocheting is easier per say, I think it's a matter of what you learn first, either knit or crochet. (I find knitting easier, although I've been doing that for 10 yrs before I learned to crochet.)

My advice to you is to maybe learn a basic scarf pattern before you learn granny squares - the squares tend to be a bit tricky for beginners, and a bit discouraging.

I love crocheting, and it is realitively easy, and once you master all the stiches it's very easy to make some neat things using patterns. Def give it a try, and I agree with cerridwen to make a single stich scarf first, just to work up your speed and get the basics done. Good luck to you!!

I'm crocheting a granny square blanket right now. It's not very far along though as I've only started yesterday.
Crocheting is a lot easier than knitting, in my opinion anyway.
