How do you keep your bud from drying out? I am curious because I just scored an eighth of some dankity dank dankness, and I don't want that shit to dry up like my last shit. Shit smells like chocolate. I tell you no lies.

If I keep the bud in a ziploc bag, on a concrete floor, in my basement (under my dresser in my room), is that a good place? It's without a doubt a constant temperature, but is it too cold? Is that drying my bud? Should I lay a t-shirt or something, or just get a new place, or not worry about it?

    Any tight-closing container.

Ball/Mason jar, Tupperware, empty coffee or margerine container.
Keep out of the light in a cool place.

Hmm...sounds like that would work. I see where you're coming from. How about like, a pill bottle? I have some of those.

Yeah a pill bottle would work great. I keep my bud in one of those and the smell doesnt even get through so it should be pretty damn airtight.

i think air would get into a pill bottle, just keep it in an air-tight plastic bag. thats what i do.

Yeah depends on the type of pill bottle, some of them are tight and some not. Tupperware is fantastic.

My pill bottles are 100% air tight, water tested. ;D

I'm a little...anal, shall we say, about my weed. I like to know exactly how much I have. Once I start getting more used to like, having weed, I bet I'll chill out a little. But (this is kind of embarrassing) I put the weed in a plastic bag, and THEN in the pill bottle.

Tupperwarer is genius. It's like...they invented it to keep air out, or something. ;P

    1) almost all pill bottles (child proof) are air tight. it would be less common to have one that isn't.

    2) plastic bags are almost never airtight. being watertight and airtight are very different things, and almost all plastic bags will allow for some measure of breathability and are not a suitable option for moderate to long term storage if you're trying to keep your buds fresh.

i generally use an old altoids sour tangerines tin that i cleaned out really well after the candy was gone. since it's the round tin rather than the hinged rectangular tin, it generally seems to be very airtight. in fact, i've never once had a problem with losing moisture in one of these tins before, which has nearly been a problem once or twice. i made sure the tin is very clean and so there has never been any problems from residual smells or flavors or sugar. if it's just mids, i grind and deseed the whole bag before putting it in there and tons more kief than you'd expect usually ends up being collected on the surfaces inside. of course with nugs you dont want to grind them up first in most cases.

anyway, i've been using the same tin to store my bud for probably about half a year or more now. never had any problems. just make sure it's airtight. a small mason jar is perfect, fwiw.

and basement temperatures are good for storing pot, but many basements would NOT be good for storing pot. they can be very damp and humid and may host any number of fungal spores due to lack of cleaning or simply from the heating ducts. at any rate, if you're talking about storing for a while, then a dry environment is key. you may want to keep the moisture thats already in the pot there, but you don't want it to be in a damp, mold-prone location.

an exception to this rule would most likely be a humidor, which regulates the relative humidity to about 70%, which would not add to the moisture too the pot, but would prevent the loss of moisture beyond a certain point. it would slowly add some moisture to very dry pot, though.

most humidors are lined with kiln dried spanish cedar, because this helps to regulate the humidity and because it helps age cigars. a benefit is that it has naturally antifungal and pest deterring properties.

if you store your pot in a humidor, dont store it in contact with your cigars. this could disturb the flavor of the cigars.

Hmm...I've seen the round tin used before, actually. I'm not really a fan of the sours, so I'll probably stick to bottles, but you know.

And...a mason jar would be a little big for my purposes. ;)

Are you saying that you collect the kief from the tin itself, or the grinder?

the tin. i find not much usable resin sticks in my grinder (a little wooden deal with the pins)

the resin mostly is dry and not too sticky, and will be dumped into the tin when i dump the pot into the tin from the grinder. more resin falls off as you go through your stash, and it will build up a dusty layer loosely clinging to the metal. it can be wiped up with a finger, and then gently scrape it off of your finger carefully with the blade of a pocket knife. dont be dumb and cut yourself :p

only do this if your bag was resiny enough to offer at least a couple nice hits from what you'll have. otherwise go through a couple more bags.

fresher pot, like nugs usually are, will generally have much stickier resin glands, and thats more likely to end up in the grinder than the resin from dried up mids like i generally smoke. mids usually have a dustier resin whereas nugs are more crystally.
