A room thats 4 feet in width x 2 feet in depth x 3 feet in height. I think im going 400 watt because I only have 3 feet of height, a 600 might be too much, even if I properly vented the heat out from the lamp you still cant get the a 90,000 lumen bulb that close to the plants, or can you? I figure my optimal lumen output is about 7000-7500 per square foot, if I use a 600 thats 11250 lumens per sq ft. a 400 would be about 6800. And with watts, optimal is 50 per sq ft, a 400 would provide exactly that, 600 would be 75 watts a square foot. Can I go the extra way without burning the plants? So im favoring a 400 watt but would 600 be better to get higher yield and better quality buds or is it not neccesary in my case? I'm aware theirs other factors in yield and quality but thinking only about lighting. Could I do 2-250 watts? Would a single 400 be better?<- thinking about light penetration, would the 250's be able to supply the bottom branches with enough light? would a 400? would a 600 be best for ensuring optimal light hitting the bottom branches. What you need is a taller growspace.

Even without a reflector, the bulb/socket's gonna take up 4", with a reflector bump that up to 10".
Spacing for a 400-watt light is 12"--18", bulb to plant tops.
The containers are gonna take up at least 8".
So that's 2' right there, min. Doesn't leave much room for plants does it?
With super-duper ventilation you might be able to shave a few inches off the bulb to plant top difference, but basically you can't veg & flower pot with a vertical height of 3' total.

 

Im cutting a hole on the top for the light so the hood itself it outside of the box, and ill use 6"x6" pots. I still have a good 2 and a half feet.

 

If you'd take a few minutes to read a grow book you'd discover that:
You need to veg a [plant until it's sexually mature to get a decent yiels, and this takes 4--6 weeks, at which time your plant could be over 1' tall.
And that a plant doubles or triples in height during the first 3 weeks of 12/12.
So there goes your 3', and that doesn't even allow for the bulb-to-plant top spacing.

 

Listen to what ranger is telling you before ya find out the hard way.I have grown in every situation you can imagine and unless you are in a grow box with alot of flouros,you will need a minimum of 4'6".

 

i object! ive seen people get 6-8" away from the tops of the plants with a 400W coolable hood. I would trim them when needed, maybe let them grow sideways? i have been told that works. take strings or whatever and force the plants branches outwards? i dont know someone reccomended that i think they said do it with the main stalk but shit i forgot. your all assholes.

What your refering to is called LST(low stress training).Do the math;36 " - 6"(light),-12"(container),-8" (distance from light to canopy) =,enjoy that 10" plant and watch your mouth regarding the name calling.

Both mg and I have grown lots of ganja inside. We're trying to give you the benefit of our experience & knowledge.
If mg is anything like me, he learned the hard way about how much vertical space is needed.

There is a method called scrog (screen of green) where you utilize a screen to limit upward growth.
Too bad overgrow no longer exists, because there were excellents posts/pics regarding that technique.

 

try lowrider........since you only want little plants, shitty yield but w/e, let him learn the hard way and waste his money on stupid shit, instead of taking other peoples advice when ASKING for it........sorry to be an asshole like you said above, but you leave no choice maybe you should read a few of the stickies, and/or other ppls grow reports/posts instead of just having everyone else do your work for you.........since you haev this money to buy light and etc......why not just buy a fucking cabinet????? 80 bucks at Lowes.........

but yeah as i said the light would be outside the box, with 6 inch tall pots. thats 2 feet 6 inches of growth area. the seeds i was looking at big bud/white widow/ice all grow i think it it was like 40-80cm. thats up to 2.6 feet.but would be trimmed down a little. i think i can do it.

 

If you think you can grow weed indoors without everyone else in the house knowing about it, think again.
And if you get busted (don't say it can't happen), your parents could lose evrything they own and you will end up in a foster home.
