Aiden has been pooping like crazy. it's not normal poop either its liquid poop or it's liwuid with chunks in it. is it diahrea is it n ormal for an 11 months old to poop liquid five times a day? I have been giving him the BRAT diet with pedialite and i am nursing him alot more. please help
I'm no doctor, but it doesn't sound normal to me. Has he had a change in diet? Does he have any other symptoms? Fever? Teething? Bella (10 months old) only poops about once every 2-3 days. She is on breastmilk & solids. I don't have any advice, but I'd keep a close eye on him. That could be dangerous for a small babe. Hope he is feeling better soon! Oh~what's the BRAT diet????
BRAT is an anagram for bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. It sounds like he might have that rotovirus (I think). Is he complaining about his tummy?
breastfed babies do not need pedialyte. that stuff is made to rehydrate and give basic nutrients, in other words, to imitate breastmilk! Nurse him all he wants, and then try to nurse him some more. If he's eating food, it's just a stomach bug and will go away really fast. If he's not eating solids, just nurse him that much more. Trust your gut instincts. If he gets a high fever, or if you start worrying that he might be seriously ill, take him to the doctor. If this is accompanied by a diaper rash, look into possible food allergy, or yeast/thrush overgrowth. Have you or he been on antibiotics lately? Has he eaten something that might not agree with him? BRAT diet might help, as long as he doesn't have any allergies or sensitivities to wheat, or bananas, or rice, like my oldest child does....
Both Bananas and applesauce give me the runs. Make sure that it isn't fruit sugar that is causing the problem. Like Mamaboogie said, in anything but life threatening situations, Pedialyte isn't neccesary in babies who are fully breastfed. If he usually drinks anything other than your milk, just make it bottled water. Juice can really cause the runs in a lot of kids. Is he running a fever? Is he lethargic, less happy than usual, or is he playing like normal? Does the poop smell badly? Has he had any new food or drink in the last 14 days or so? Is he on any medications? (Antibiotics are notorious for causing the runs.) Get some Bifidis Probiotic powder. Let him lick if off your finger, according to the dosing on the bottle. Make sure it is in date, and has been stored in the refrigerator at the health food store. This will replace any good bacteria he has lost in his gut and help him heal faster. Babies do better with Bifidis than Acidophlus, as Bifidus is the nornal flora found in a human milk fed infant's gut.
aidne has been nothing but playful and happy. i stopped giving him pedia lite today so i will see if his poop will return to normal and not stink so much. he has gotten a diaper rash and i have been putting cream on it and it has gone away. i am justing thinking he had a stomach virus. also he is cutting four more teeth so i dont know if that is the cause.
teething, and the accompanying drool, will indeed cause runny poops and diaper rash. always did in my kids. Glad he's feeling fine.
