For anyone who doesn't know,Booker T and the MG's were the house studio band at Stax/Volt Records in Memphis.Besides that name, they were the Mar-Keys when they used a horn section (later known as the Memphis Horns.) Besides being on dozens of 60's hits, including several Wilson Pickett hits, they're on "Knock On Wood" by Eddie Floyd, all of Sam and Dave and Otis Redding's records. The drummer was Al Jackson Jr.When there was both a piano and organ on a song,it was usually Isaac Hayes on the second keyboard.
They epitomized the southern soul sound of the 60's,and it's amazing how well the musicianship and sonic qualities of the records have held up.The Otis Redding box set is priceless. You can hear every note clear as a bell, and it sounds like musicians sweating away in a room,no frills added.Sonically it's the antidote to modern rock recording, which mainly seems to be about adding as much glossy whore makeup as possible to the sound.

He wrote Midnight Hour with Wilson Pickett...It's ashame such a inspiring singer like Pickett has passed on. I'm glad he got a little tribute on the music awards. Hey man i really dig your Taylor Hicks pic! I'm hoping he stays in the competition longer though.
